How many of you actually met and talked to Nile Kinnick

Awesome story.

I knew a guy from my hometown that has passed who went to Iowa with Kinnick. He used to take my Dad and I to Iowa games often when I was a kid. Always spoke very highly of Kinnick as a football player and as a person.

As I am only 30 years old I never had the opportunity to meet Nile.

However, my grandfather not only knew Nile but they both went to law school at the U of I, were fraternity brothers/roommates, and dear friends. Grandpa corresponded with Nile and Nile's father throughout the war and the relationship with Nile's father continued beyond Nile's tragic end. From everything which Gramps told me Nile was as fine of person you'd meet...well spoken, intelligent, and incredibly modest. A man which he felt would have been the Governor of Iowa if not something more spectacular.

Gramps told me that Iowa Stadium would have been called Kinnick Stadium long before it was if it wasn't for the University respecting the wishes of Nile's father. You'll have to forgive me as I don't recall Mr. Kinnick's name but it was his desire not to have the stadium named in his son's namesake for a sacrifice which so many other twenty-somethings made.

One thing I am confident of is we would all be a lot better off if there were more Niles and Bills in this world but that's part of what makes them so special. Miss you Gramps and I look forward to someday spending football Saturdays with you again.

My mother is 79 (fortunately, not on this board ... at least to my knowledge.) She spends more time on the computer than a teen-ager.

Here's a quandry: do you accept your mother's request to friend you on Facebook?

My mother, age 76, is the same way. She is on Facebook with my kids and wonders why I'm not on there. It may change someday; good luck with that.
