How Many Games Are Going To Get Cancelled?

I'm 5 hours to the NW but I'm assuming you folks in IC still have a bunch of snow on the ground and cold temps.

Hawks have a home stand running from March 12-20, how many of those, if any, do you think they're going to get in?

They are predicting mid 40's for early next week but I'm also seeing chances of rain. Depends on how well they can clear the snow off the field, I don't think the temperatures are warm enough to melt it all off on it's own.

I wonder how much it will hurt our chances at an at large bid if these games don't get rescheduled .

Hopefully not too many, doesn’t look good though. Will be super tough down the late part of the season if they will have to make up any games and have to play multiple games in a row. Heard the pitching is deeper this year so if that’s the case hopefully the other schools (most of the big ten) will have the same problem with weather but not have as deep as a pitching staff. Team looks good again this year! Should be an interesting season.

It's not just snowcover. Everything flash-froze about ten days ago and entire landscapes are just sheets of ice. I have to believe that will be even harder to melt than snow. And harder to get rid of.

It's going to take several nights where the temperature stays above freezing and no more nights in the single digits or near zero. We had fourteen below zero this morning in Wisconsin River valley towns like Boscobel and Muscoda that are only two hours from Iowa City.

Putting turf on the field was one of the best decisions made in recent year. It is going to be the only reason we play games in the next couple weeks if we do at all.
This weather makes what Heller and crew have done even more impressive. VERY hard to go compete in games when all you have managed for practice is being indoors trying to simulate being on the field.

I wonder if a heated field would be helpful for baseball. These early season games are often either very cold or can't be played due to weather.

Doubleheader Moved to Sunday for Evansville Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa --The University of Iowa baseball team’s three-game series against Evansville has been altered again due to the threat of inclement weather.

The series will now begin Saturday with a single game, slated for a first pitch of 7 p.m. (CT) at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois. Sunday will now be a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (CT) with game two to follow.

Iowa’s home opener against Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday, March 12 has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

Only if you have Dr. Jobe and Dr. Andrews on speed dial. They would be the ones repairing the ruined arms of every pitcher on the staff.

Michigan State and BYU both have heated fields and those towns get as cold as here. I'm honestly surprised we haven't done it yet. Both of those schools have said they love it.

The cold air isn't as bad of a deal as it sounds, with heated dugouts and jackets they're good to go.

There was a home game canceled last Wednesday along with the one on the 12th coming up . I’m predicting at least half of their home games get canceled when it’s all said and done

Petrakis Park in Dubuque, where Loras College plays their baseball games, is currently more suitable for swamp buggy racing than baseball, complete with a sippy hole or two.

It's the field on the right as you cross the Mississippi River into Wisconsin, across the highway from Q Casino.

I really think Iowa should go the heated field route. MSU and BYU love it from everything I’ve read.

There are a lot of times the air temp is ok but the snowcover and moisture aren’t. Heller wants R/CF and L/CF brought 10’ closer, I say do it at the same time.

Maybe we can get Tracey Greasebomb to donate some of her jackpot.

Might be worth a try. I know Bluffs Run used to have a heated dog track so they could race greyhounds ten months a year.

There is currently two to four feet of snow pack in most of Minnesota and Wisconsin north of the Dells which could present a different problem for Petrakis Park in April. It is on Schmitt Island, which is outside the floodwall.

We’ve still got 20” of ice on our lakes here which is unheard of for this time of year. Unfortunately the rain is going to make it shitty and we’ll have a longer wait until open water fishing. Poor me.

Fishing on or near the Mississippi River will be horrible if we get the anticipated flooding later this spring. And if it threatens the levee it eliminates three of my favorite running spots.

Bluegill fillets, steak fries, and coleslaw for supper tonight.
