How likely is Iowa to make it to NYC assuming they win the first round

Clown fans are going to be pretty upset when we're holdin' a trophy and putting a banner inside Carver next year.

Will the banner be 'Free Pizza for the first 10,000 fans' and the trophy say 'NIT 3 seed'?

I keeed, I keeed

Road games could be a bit of a challenge? Will be MAJOR challenge..

Iowa won 2 games on the Road all year Penn State and Northwestern. Not good..

We are also assuming UMASS will beat Stoneybrook..
Not so fast my friends...

Stoneybrook won their league easily but got upset in the conference tourney. 24-7. Might not be a picnic for UMASS.
(of course beating Indiana State is not a given for Iowa either.)

First, I would not count Indiana State as an easy win. Their PG Odom is tough and they are well coached. Our size and depth should wear them down, but Iowa will be out in the second round. I would like to think this team has a chip on its shoulder and wants to prove a point, but they have choked in every big game this season. It's a broken record with Iowa--really poor perimeter shooting leads to long scoring droughts, which leads to losses.

Can anybody remember anything good coming from winning the NIT Championship?

Yeah.
-A young team gets more games to develop.
-The fans get to watch their squad a few more times.
-And the players...yeah, you know those guys that actually put in all the work? I'm sure they want to keep playing and winning. I doubt that Eric May wants to hang up his sneakers just yet.

I view the NIT, like getting a bowl invite to the Motor City Bowl. While the invite is far from the ultimate goal (NCAA tournament/Major Bowl bid) if you're invited, you may as well put forth 100% effort and win. And while winning it isn't going to get much recognition or remembrance from anyone outside of Iowa, it does become a talking point for pre-season chatter next fall.

Won't guesstimate wins and losses in the NIT -but you will see Weds night whether the Hawks are motivated to play or not. If they fool with ISU and its a tight game, didn't come to play. Beat them handily and I think they are motivated enough.

Yeah, they can spell your school's name wrong on the shirt. :)

As a screen printer this is my worse nightmare.

Perhaps your worst nightmare should be selling product to a certain Iowa City area merchant on credit without first receiving a lien on a certain new revolutionary shaving product. This, however, should be your second worst nightmare.

Larry Bird played at Indiana State so their program is better than ours. We need to command respect on the court.

Does anyone remember the champs, period?

Without looking, anyone remember who won the NCAA 2 years ago? How about 3? The only reason I remember KY won the NCAA last year is because of all the lament over them not being able to defend it, this year.

Point is, unless it's you or your team, it really doesn't matter come the following March.
