How good is Nevada?

They aren't good...we will learn a lot more next week against Rutgers.

I would say that’s a fair assessment and I agree with you about learning more next week when we get into conference play.

Well that’s the golden question. Did we make major strides and improvements or just play a glorified high school team? Maybe a little of both???

I got curious and did a Google search and here’s an article I found.

They gave up over 50 to Incarnate Word

They’re so good that I don’t pay them or UNLV no mind. The first year we lived in Las Vegas we went to the Nevada UNLV game just because it seemed like it would be fun. Ended up leaving mid way through the 2nd quarter.

I will say this: I was shocked at the size of SDakota State's offensive & defensive lines -- they looked every bit like a BTen opponent. Conversely, I will say that Nevada was perhaps the smallest team I can remember Iowa facing in a long time -- when the captains were on the field for the coin toss, it was somewhat comical that LB Campbell stood a good head taller than any of the Wolf Pack's captains. And after watching both teams in-person, I can tell you that the SDState Jackrabbits would likely manhandle Nevada with ease...the Wolf Pack's offensive passing scheme was especially weak and reminded me oddly of Iowa's route trees, altho run with less conviction.

Nevada is not good, but we have failed to execute offensively as well as we did last night against not good teams recently.

OLine is still the biggest concern, but now I am quite a bit more worried about the receivers. They left a lot out there that they could have had.

Yes, it was Nevada, but thanks to the oline Petras was still hurried quite a bit but still placed balls were they should have been caught. A couple were a tad underthrown, but still catchable. He only had a couple groaners, and only one that went too over the receiver's head. Yes, but it was Nevada, but he was his most accurate he has probably ever been, in the rain, in an effed up weather delayed game, and under duress.

I think the WRs will be OK -- Bruce and Ragaini both made some nice catches.
But the OLine is just not showing the progress you would hope heading into the 4th game of the season. And it doesn't help that guys are rotating in and out every other series -- that's no way to build a cohesive unit that works well together and KF should know that. After 3 games it should be obvious who the 5 best players are -- none of them are FR, and you've had last spring, fall camp, and 25% of the season to evaluate...put the best 5 out there and let them work TOGETHER.

If Iowa's offense struggles at Rutgers on Saturday, I wonder what KF's excuse will be, since all the key injured players he said were holding the offense back -- RB G.Williams, WRs Ragaini & Johnson & Brecht -- are now playing?

Nevada is terrible. This game we needed as a boost and to calm things down, but by all rights it should’ve been 80-0. Hopefully there were a lot of things learned and we get better from here.
