How Fran recruited "national-statement" class for 2012

Great read, focusing on beating other programs for Gesell and Woodbury. Love this from the story:

Within a week of arriving in the Midwest, McCaffery had eyeballed both. Within a month, both had scholarship offers. In November, both signed with the Hawkeyes, serving as cornerstones for a five-man class ranked No. 19 nationally by ESPN.com.

"This is a national-statement class," Paul Biancardi, ESPN's national recruiting director, said. "To be successful in this business, you have to be able to recruit, and Fran's a proven recruiter.

"This is a class that, as it grows and develops, will be the foundation of Iowa basketball."

Excellent find, Tweeter, most excellent indeed.....

Those statements sum it up nicely. We are in very good hands with Fran at the helm.....

:)

Compare next year's class with the previous 8 years. It's almost comical how bad our recruiting has been. No question Fran has us going in the right direction.

its not me its how the National media sees this class, the futher the players and team drop the less the Nation pays attention, and not only the nation but other recruits.
i asked this in another thread but it warrents being asked.
which is more impressive to the outsiders; a Top 20 Class with 1 top 100 recruit and a top 50 recruit with 2 3* and 1 2* recruit, or a top 30 class with a pair of top 100 recruits and 3 2* recruits? forget abou the feeling of a fellow hawk fan, and think on a National level

Fran is not just fighting to gain the locals respect but he is also fighting to gain National respect, a Top 20 class with a top 50 recruit goes alot farther than a Top 30 class with a couple Top 100 kids and 3 2*'s do

Ya. cause when we improve next year recruits will factor in what the recruiting class was ranked. Stepped away from the ledge

I think Fran brings an excitement to the game, so he will be able to recruit well. In my opinion this is what Ferentz, on the outside, seems to be missing. He does a great job developing the talent he gets, but I wish you could feel the buzz around football like basketball has now. Don't get me wrong the bball program has a way to go, but you can see it coming.

There was a buzz around the football team. Stanzi's last year we are in the top10.But the team didn't come close to expectations.

Ahhh, even with the re-ranking's Iowa sits with the 20th rated class according to ESPN. Still national!

Better edit this post, tweeter. Apparently you didn't hear ESPN dropped all 5 recruits which means they will suck and everyone hates Iowa. OMG. BRB you guys.

Are you guys freakin kidding me!? We've got the best class coming in since George Raveling! Let's face it even Mr. Davis Davis wasn't a very good recruiter...helluva xs and os guy but couldn't recruit a shoe. Unlike Kentucky that turns them pro like making popcorn Fran's boys will be there all 4 years. I think this is a watch out in 3 years type of turning point.
