How does recruiting work now?

Is there any talk of fit, culture etc. still or is it straight up heres the NIL offer?

Obviously players have been paid forever but that money wasn’t discussed by the recruiter.

This is an interesting question.

The other thing I've thought a lot about. 2 things really.

1. This is the tail end of the NIL transition. I thought about this a lot in regards to Caitlin Clark. When she decided on Iowa, NIL wasn't available. And didnt really kick into high gear until well into her career. NIL as we see it today is only 4 years old. There's people on this team who chose this team for 2 different reasons.

2. somewhat related
There's guys on this team who grew up wanting nothing else but to play on this team. Knowing they are gonna have to fight for their spot against "that kid from Anamosa" or some out of state recruit who will become their blood brother. My kid is friends with a few guys who are #2/3 on depth charts. Even as seniors, depending on position, they're lucky to get a snap or 3 and, of course, special teams play. How do these guys feel about transfers who they never spent time with in thhe dorm as a freshman? Or did all the team byilding exercises with? Or met up with over the summer? Not just taking their spot, but maybe getting a couple grand when all they're left with is trying to sell some jerseys with their name to friends...or maybe the occasional appearance at a home town bar?

I think this transition era will go on for awhile. Another 2-4 years before the paradigm is fully changed for kids who are in high school right now.

I don't know if any of this is actually a legit thing.

I do know, I would not have wanted to be a coach who started under the old system and had to navigate the transition. On this, I can't argue Ferentz' handling of it. Results? Not so much. But if you can only complain with hindsight, it's hard to argue someone's done something wrong.

Now, that being said...there could be things under wraps I am unaware of. I'm just not feeling that though.
