How does 2012 Class Compare to past Iowa Classes on 7/21?

Here is how many players Iowa had verbals from by July 21st in the past several recruiting classes..the years represent their signing class:
2012: 7* if Ward is in the fold
2011: 10
2010: 9
2009: 2
2008: 3
2007: 5
2006: 1
2005: 7
2004: 6
2003: 2
2002: 0

Iowa’s first commit in the Class of 2002 was from Warren McDuffie and that came on November 29th.

What we have seen in recent years is more players committing to schools before the start of their senior seasons…the recruiting clock has definitely sped up, but the last two years for Iowa have certainly been the outliers and not the norm. It would not surprise me to see Iowa at 8-10 commits before September 1st rolls around, where they had 13 in the live well by September 1st last year.

I love the composition of the class. What's more ... I've been completely impressed with our classes over the prior 2 years too.

Our recent classes really aren't all that dissimilar, on average, from the really nice recruiting run that we enjoyed from '05 to '07. And, as Jon likes to point out, those recruiting classes ended up providing A LOT of the guys who manned that 2008 squad that has subsequently landed so many guys into the NFL.

What's the implication? I believe that the implication is that the Hawks will continue to be well-supplied with talent, that we'll continue to place A LOT of guys in the NFL, and that we'll continue to be in legit contention for BCS bowls.

Very cool!

this will show how involved I get with NCAA 2012, but I wish they had a function for juniors in HS. maybe not all the recruits but whatever they would classify as the top 150 to already start recruiting them, inviting them for unofficial visits and/or attend camps. this is becomming more and more the usual and not just a trend.

Jon you should write an article about Iowa coaching staffs stability. I know this is well documented but I was thinking that we have had essentially two coaches the last 30 years, how many coaches have Alabama, Florida, USC, michigan, notre dame, Ohio state had during that time???? Go to Iowa if you want stability

I thought Ward would make 7? Ward, Flemming, Wilson, Kornbrath, Johnson, Ott, and I feel like there was another.

I'm also curious if anyone knows how many of the verbals we had last year by the start of the season did end up signing with Iowa. It would be interesting to see the correlation between verbals and signings.

Edit: I forgot Keppy. So we do have 7 verbals. Very nice.

I believe Ferentz in one of only 7 D.1A head coaches who've been with their program since 1999. Paterno, and Stoops being two of the others.

I like the idea but it would take up even more time than the game already does of my life...I vote no for my own sake.
