How do you define success?

This has been a fun year no question but do you feel like the Hawks need to win one tournament game to make this year a complete success? Given the unsuccessful years leading up to this, I would say that one tourney win would be a nice cherry on top of an already successful season. Two wins, I'd be dancing in the streets!

Considering many didn't have this year's team making the tournament, I'd say it's already been a success. Throw in a win or two in the tournament and fans should be ecstatic IMO.

Fans can still be critical of losing but should be happy with the direction the program is heading.

The short answer = Yes

Iowa has already made it further than they did last year so progress has been made but they need an NCAA win. Can't have another one and done.

I didn't expect this team to make the dance, so this along with a 3rd place conference finish equals a successful season in my eyes. But, boy would I like to win a tourney game.:D

The season won't be a failure if Iowa loses to Davidson, but I'm not sure I would call it a success either. It would be somewhere in-between...like a "positive season" or something. Even with a loss Fran still has improved the team every single season since he's been at Iowa.

A win on Friday would make this season a success, an upset of Gonzaga would make this season a runaway success. The publicity Fran, White and co would get the entire week leading up to the sweet 16 games would be amazing for the program. I can't even imagine. Ok I'm way ahead of myself

1. The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted: attributed their success in business to hard work.
2.a. The gaining of fame or prosperity: an artist spoiled by success.
b. The extent of such gain.

3. One that is successful: The plan was a success.
4. Archaic A result or an outcome.

Going to bed at night knowing that I have never cheated on my wife, been honest to all my friends and neighbors, that my kids have never done drugs, that I am financial successful to the point I have helped many others, that I put all my children through college and instilled in them a moral fiber that they will pass onto their children and that they ALWAYS treat ALL others with respect regardless of their race, financial status or religious beliefs. That is what I define as success.

As as far as sports teams go..... That you gave it your all and did the best you could and that there was no cheating involved in behalf of those (parents, school, fans, coaches) that you represent with the uniform you wear. Success this year for me as a hawk fan will be a sweet 16. I also want it for Aaron White and the other seniors who have given so much of their time to the team.

If you believe Eric Roberts (as Paulie) in "The Pope of Greenwich Village"?

His father asked what he called success. Answer:

"Knowin' how to SPEND it"

"I never bought a brandy 'less it was cordon bleu. I borrowed five hundred from shylocks to see Sinatra at The Garden. Sat TWO seats away from Tony Bennett. THAT's SUCCESS, Pop".

That's where I'm at. Although this year was technically better than last year by not being in the First Four, winning 1+ NCAA games is the next step. Another one and done this year would feel more or less like we treaded water since last year.

I thought this team would be NIT/Fringe Bubble and MAY get in.. They ended up a 7 seed, so even if they lose to Davidson, I wouldn't call this year a failure.. Just need at least one win to make this season a 100% success IMO. Lose this game, it would be more like 50-75% success (give or take).

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. -Henry Ford

I think Iowa must win against Davidson, and if so, get that swag back a little, play even harder against the next team....We have seen on occasion that Iowa can play together, keep things together, and work together, and by doing so, have fun doing it....

Let's get it done on Friday, and not look back

I've always measured a "successful" season if all the following happen:

1. 20+ wins
2. Winning B1G record
3. Single digit seed in NCAA tourney

If they do that, then I deem it a successful season. Everything else is gravy at that point....

I agree. To mw success is more about how the entire season went. Not just 1 game.

-losing in the opening round will be a major disappointment
-losing to Gonzaga would be disappointing...but nothing to be ashamed of
-making it to the Sweet 16 would be a great year, except that falling to the clowns again would suck
-beating the clowns to make the elite 8 would be a fantastic year (and icing on the top, I hate those rubes)

3. Final Four appearance.

Anyone of the above.

I am not assuming the dam clowns will make the round of 16. Gotta think positive.

Sure would like to see a BTT victory....but I digress.

Yes, 10000% for sure, Iowa has to win a tourney game to push the envelope.

Well said and lived BigD!

The only thing that as a player I might add is that success is winning the next game. It is when the last game a player can play has been played that he can look back and determine if the journey/accomplishment was a success.

Win or lose Friday this season is a success for me. But I want some more success this year. I feel I have a very high threshold for success.

Lol, agreed! I can handle all of the success this team wants to accomplish.

It's been a good season - 20+ wins, legit NCAA invite, T-3rd in the conference.. Sign me up for that every year. A first round loss would be a bummer, though.

Yes, we need to get over that NCAA hump. If the Zags beat us so be it but we really need the win on Friday. Get those 6 returning players at least a taste...let them spend a year wanting more.
