I really don't think it was that bad. He made some decent points. I can see how that post could of gone down a bad road.
Being able to recruit good players is key, and there are more African America elite caliber recruits then white.
I don't think theres anything horrible about saying that.

BUT...
I think theres something to having a coach that can relate to African American kids growing up in urban cities. Maybe not a head coach, but having an assistant that they can identify or relate to is good.
Hiring anyone because of skin color is stupid, but I think Freds point wasn't written out very well.

Listen, I don't mind talking about race when it's done in a respectful way. The OP was over the top.
For anyone to say that Iowa should hire a black coach, I find that ignorant. Iowa should hire the best coach it can find for what it needs to accomplish. If that person happens to be of a certain race, who freaking cares.
