How bad is DJK on a scale of 1-10?

1 is driving 1 mph over the speed limit and 10 is Dahmer on my crime scale. I would say he is about a 3.5, maybe up to a 4, and everybody who is "shocked," "disgusted" or "upset" is overreacting just a bit. I'll bet he pleads guilty to some lesser included charges and gets a week or two in the slammer, treatment and a ton of community service. He's not really hurting anybody but himself and if he has a serious addiction to coke or prescription pills, he needs treatment and not a long jail sentence or outrage from the fan base.

24 hours later and a chance to gain my breath I'm actually inclined to agree with you -- around a 3 or 4. It probably will get pleaded down; I doubt he does jail time. That does not, however, diminish my great disappointment in him or give me any more tools to square the images of a great athlete catching passes or tearing up acknowledging the loud applause from fans and the pride of his adoptive parents with someone sitting in a duplex with a known druggie and doing blow.

Also, those that said this is less then a DUI, I am going to assume that was a joke. Possession of illegally obtained prescription drugs or Coke depending on the amounts can be a felony. You need three DUI's for a felony.

No Joke, he was still going to graduate. If he could handle football and school, I don't see how this is worse DUI. You could easily kill someone any time you get behind the wheel drunk. Just because drug laws are worse doesn't make the crime worse.

I agree that he needs treatment and not jail, unfortunately the United States of America disagrees. This isnt Europe, in this country drug abuse is considered criminal problem not a medical one.

The only thing I'm not clear on is the keeping a drug house charge. Is that a lesser intent to deliver charge? If so, he's seeing jail for sure, which I'm sure he will see at least a little time there.

Looking at the severity of the crime he committed....not that big of a deal. As was mentioned, he was only harming himself. So long as he isn't charged with any kind of DEALING or intent to deliver.

That said, from a role-model standpoint, as an ambassador for a University and a football program, as a person supposedly in a leadership position....

Yikes. Not good DJK. Dude was a role model for a lot of young Hawk fans. There are a lot of parents who have to explain to their kids why their role model was arrested, and none of them should have to be doing it.

It's just a huge let down, even if the crime committed isn't that big of a deal.

I use a different scale. I rate things on a scale of how much sense people make in the political forum. It starts at EddyP (1) on the bad end, and ends with me of course on the good side (10).

I would rate DJK's actions somewhere around a MesaClone. He's pretty bad but he's geniune and he means well. He's definately someone you wouldn't trust with your daughter or a potato gun.
