How are we replacing these LBs.

I think this year Hitchens, Morris and Kirksey have been the best Linebackers we've had since the Greenway/Hodge days. Any prospects coming up to fill these shoes?

Enjoy this year.... next year has plenty challenge

I was going to say some thing similar. You just don't replace 3 guys of that caliber. Just glad we get to watch them one more time. Hope they play awesome in the bowl game.

I was just on the phone with my dad. He watched the game there in Belle Plaine, Iowa as did I here in Atlanta, Georgia. We talked about next season and how the team looks very solid with the exception of the linebackers. Hopefully we have some studs just chomping at the bit to show their great skills.

They will be replaced by not playing Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St or Penn St. Plus returning the entire DLine with also help. As we found out a few years ago, it is much easier to replace LB's then it is the DLine.

We have some talent at LB, including Alston and young Spearman. Having an outstanding veteran D Line will help a lot.

Did we? I remember both 2010 and 2011 with lots of growing pains

I imagine the coaches will evaluate throughout bowl prep, Spring ball and Summer camp and then pick their best 3. But what do I know?

I agree that it might be the D line carrying us next year but Alston and Spearman show potential. Although our linebackers are asked to do a lot.

^^ haha good one. Hey, alston played for morris in 2011, and he has been on the field, I am hoping he can come in and play the middle. Meirs (SP?) can maybe take hitchens spot and will spearman be out in space for kirksey, those are three good players right there.

I dont know the roster beyond that but I think we will be decent

Next year's schedule is much more favorable. No Ohio State no Michigan State no Michigan road games at Pitt, Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota.

I remember saying the same thing when Greenway, Hodge, and Miles graduated.

Another group will emerge. Iowa has a history of good linebackers.

Replacing the LBs will be tough, but I'm actually more concerned about losing Scherff and Van Sloten. Brandon has been destroying people for the last few weeks; hard to believe that he would come back.

Alston & Spearman seem to be the guys...who is the third?

Travis Perry has seen some reps over the last couple years. He is probably the guy right now. Collins would have had a shot at starting next year if he hadn't got da boot. Laron Taylor is a young guy that might see the field.

Alston likely replaces Morris. Spearman (if he is not a DE next year) seems better suited to Hitchens role, so it really comes down to who can fill that all-important Kirksey role. Might see a guy like Lile or one the redshirt dbs move down as well.

Morris, Kirksey and especially Hitchens have just stepped up their game this November. They will be huge losses but there are capable, physical, not completely green players waiting for their turn.

To me the bigger question is, when the backers struggle in pass coverage next year, how will Phil P compensate. That guy has shown the ability to adapt his defense from abused to abusers and even found a way to mask the glaring weakness at safety by not give the other team enough time to attack them. Unique to this staff, Phil P decided that he could either sit in base and get beat or take the risk of attacking and give his team a fighting chance. I think the D will be ok.

Wow, from what some of you are saying Iowa has a very favorable schedule next year.
