How about Spike Albrecht?

He has 2 bad hips and wants to play the majority of the minutes. He's not interested in a supporting role of any kind. At least this is what I recall from when I read the press release.

I don't think Spike was a point guard, was he?? He will have one year left. Next year will be a rebuilding year for Iowa anyway, so why not play the young guys & get them playing time & ready for a run the subsequent years. Makes no sense to bring a guy in for 1 year.

If we found the right pg transfer, next year wouldn't be a rebuilding year.

He could get a majority of the minutes at PG here. Seems like it'd be a good fit if there aren't any better graduate transfer PG's out there

No thanks on Spike. Better off developing the young guys we have than taking a one year guy with bad hips.

Just because a young guy plays doesn't mean he'll get better. Mike would be an example of that. Need to try to win now not for future years

Exactly. We have been to three strait NCAA tourneys and have a reasonable shot at the tournament next year. We do not need to be wasting seasons to develop players.

Plus as you said playing guys who are not ready does not always help their development (See Woody). Kaminsky barely played as a Freshman, and he developed fine.

As for Spike, a guy with two bad hips, I'm not sure he's the answer.

We already got payback for Rudock. His name is CJ Bethard.

Of course you probably know I meant that we "loaned" Rudock to Michigan where he was productive last year for them. So, they could "loan" Abrecht to us where he could perform likewise for Iowa.

And I think it could happen. The ESPN scroll said Belein has lifted his intra-conference ban on a possible Albrecht transfer to another B1G school. That tells me that maybe Spike's put some feelers out there to at least one B1G school and gotten some interest. Could be that Fran's already called him.

And he does have bad hips but you'd think a 22ish year old young man would have a good chance to recover from that affliction.
