Houston Texans fired their offensive coordinator

So that is the long way to say that yes I am correct, he was Clemsons OC..... :)

If you look back through my posts I had even said that you bring on another if you want as passing game OC or even name the Co OC. It really matters little. The fact is that Brian getting the OC job after being a assistant coach in the NFL or D1 school for 7 years isn't unusual.

I would actually be all for bringing in David Raih as Co OC or passing game OC and tell him the OC gig is his when the old man steps down. I don't have a problem with Raih being an Co OC or a passing game coordinator, even though lots around here would find his only 5 year resume lacking.

Brian's not going to share the OC title. He very well may bring somebody in with the vision of opportunity as a future OC if it works well and Brian were to get his shot at HC but it would be as QB coach or Passing game Coordinator or whatever title you want to make it but it won't be with s co offensive coordinator title.

It really isn't Brian's decision. I do agree though that the title in 99% likelihood won't be Co OC. I could see a passing game coordinator though.

I'm not sure why we're comparing Brian at Iowa to the 4 playoff teams. Iowa isn't their league so why would we compare ourselves to them?

The Houston Texan OC for the past 2 years was the guy who replaced Brian as TE coach at New England in 2012. He had never been OC until he was hired by Bill O'Bien at Houston and was 36 when hired as a first time OC.

Hate on Brian as much as you want, but at least quit looking like an idiot and saying that he doesn't deserve the job because of experience. Bobby Stoops was an assistant coach for 6 years before getting his first DC job. Beliema was a LB coach for 7 years before getting his first DC job. Brian has been a coach for 7 years now, and is getting his first OC job. This isn't out of the ordinary at all.
Maybe not the best example given the guy was so bad he got canned after 2 years.

It's a great example. Every single OC had to get his first OC job at one point. My example shows that 5-7 years of being as assistant at the NFL or at a P5 school is enough experience to get your first OC/DC job. Stoops turned out fine with 6 years experience before his first DC job, Beliema did fine having 7 years experience with is first DC job.......

You just named 2 coaches from 2 programs that were coached by HC's that weren't offensively challenged.

Saying that Brian has as much assistant coaching experience as many first time DC/OC is hardly a "rampage".
Brian getting the job is an 'only at iowa' thing. Stack his resume up against those allowed to apply through a fair and open application process and he probably wouldn't be considered a top 5 candidate but that's just speculation. I would have at least liked to have seen who else was interested first.

So what's wrong with Brian leaving to take an OC job at an FCS school or a MAC type school as a tryout and if he does well, he knows he has a position at Iowa waiting?

There is nothing wrong with that, many have to go that route. Others like Stoops, Beliema, Frost, The Clemson OC and Brian can snag a OC job at a P5 school right away. Houston's OC had never called plays before. It happens all the time. That is just looking at Iowa assistant coaches who jump right into being an OC/DC.

Listen I get that many don't want Brian, but to say this is somehow unprecedented or this type of thing would never happen anywhere else is just not correct.

You missed the point entirely. I guess all of those folks you mentioned were given the jobs without any searches. Oh, and co-OC is not the same as being the sole OC.

Sounds to me like some people think the only prerequisite for OC job is to be an OC. So how does one ever get to be an OC in the first place?
