Hoping For Better Bowl Than This Projection

It's about 4-5 weeks to early to be predicting Bowl match ups. This writer from USA Today is just filling space in the newspaper. Either he is too lazy or not creative enough to do a relevant story in week 5 of the season.

I will probably be ripped apart by some for this, but here's my gut feeling. KF, at this point, is perfectly satisfied to go 8-4 and get a decent bowl invite.

Those few 10-2 years and trips to the Orange Bowl really put the pressure on KF and his staff to repeat those results. I don't think he likes that at all. It's not like Iowa could go to a National Championship game, but I truly don't think KF wants any part of that at this stage of his career.

He's perfectly content in being a little above average. He doesn't want to blow anyone away. He just wants Iowa to score 1 more point then the opponent scores.

I think KF wants to win games, even 10+, but he is too caught up with playing ball control to get it done. Hence his high-side will probably be 8 to 9 wins from here on out. Especially when the schedule gets tougher than this year.

Pinstripe would be ok in a year when we did not have this soft schedule...one time in NYC would be ok. But, this year, we need to do better, like maybe the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.

Too early to draw real conclusions.

Our defense gave up a lot of yards on the ground vs Pitt. I fear that Wisky and Nebby will run thru our defense also. That is why we need the offense to be productive.

I watched Abdullah run for Nebby against Miami last week. Our defense will definitely have to stiffen up. He is the real deal. Maybe Miami's run defense isn't that good, but man he looked good.

I think the Pinstripe bowl would be fun. Not saying I want that this year (hope we are better). But NYC during the holiday season certainly provides some different/more interesting activities than Florida bowls.

There are tons of direct flights to NYC. Great food, museums, entertainment. And get to watch the Hawks play at Yankee stadium. I'd rather travel to this bowl then screw around in Jacksonville.

I like that Big Ten has tried to place to less prestigious bowls in destination cities. No need to visit El Paso, Shreveport, Jacksonville, or the like to watch the Hawks play in a lower tier bowl.

Seriously? You'd rather go to New York than Florida, Texas or Louisiana in late December? If this winter is anything like last winter (and all the pundits are saying this winter will be worse) the game in New York will be sub-zero. No way, man.

What??? You may not like how he goes about it, but the coaches want to win as many games as possible. To suggest otherwise is asinine.

I might rather be in a frigid Yankee Stadium than in Jacksonville.

Agreed. NYC is awesome and easy to get to. Am planning to go watch the bball team at MSG and might consider going back for a bowl game. Of course, my first intent would not be to actually attend the game, but since I'm strongly considering downsizing from season-ticket holder to "tavern-hauxk", what better place in the world to enjoy my newly adopted status than in the Big Apple?

Besides that, as long as KirkFer and the G. D. offensive coordinator are battling to see who can cram a square peg the deepest into the round hole, it's a "beggars can't be choosers" mentality.

He did look very good. My only question is if they are going to burn him up by week 12 when we face them. He's already had 92 rushing attempts in four games and we have not entered the B1G yet. All the Heisman hype is only going to tempt Bo to use him even more and every front 7 they face is going to be keyed in on him. I hope he stays healthy because I would like to see him play in Kinnick but it makes you wonder.

Not really saying they don't want to win. Just saying a little above average is ok with KF because it's apparently ok with the majority of the fan base that lives in Iowa. I mean come on. What else do you have in Iowa?

I'm a native by the way and got out. There's a great world outside of Iowa that doesn't revolve around Iowa Hawkeye Football.

So all I'm saying is what I said above. The majority of Iowa fans, especially those living in Iowa, seem just fine with 8 wins a year. KF is a god to most Iowa fans and he's won an average of 8 games a year if you exclude his first 2 years. Add in the first 2 years and his average wins per year are 7.2.

And by the way. I'm so tired of hearing about how hard it is to recruit to Iowa. That's total BS!

Tell me. How does Bill Snyder recruit to Friggin Manhatten, KS? Or, how does Gary Pinkel recruit to Columbia, MO? Neither of those cities combined are as nice as Iowa City. I've been to all 3 several times.

Play the best players and win as many games as possible while working your butts off recruiting.

You may have missed the furor after Iowa lost to ISU last week.....KF was not treated like a God, that is for sure.
You come off as condescending. Gee, nothing to do in Iowa so fans are ok with 8 wins?....wtf?

They have running water and electricity in Iowa now....maybe you had not heard.
I have lived in Chicago for 30 years, and I will tell you that Cubs fans get the same attitude...''.don't go to the games unless you want a loser''....I am a Sox fan and I admit that is dumb.

Iowa fans are as demanding as there are around. They are loyal, so that makes them dumb? No.
I love how some fans think that if the fans revolt that means happy days are here again.....again...just dumb.
We know the limitations to our program...it is called realism. Iowa is not OSU or Bama....never were, and never will be...

It's cold as hell that time of year (snow at a bowl game? Yay!) and is the most expensive city in America ($300 a night for a hotel room? Yay!), and doubly so around New Year's. Oh yeah, and it's played in a freaking baseball stadium.

Pass.

You know it's not the "real" Yankee Stadium, right? They tore that one down. This one is just some stupid 8 year old baseball park that was never designed to hold a football game. Why people think this is a good idea is baffling to me. I mean, if you really love the Evil Empire, then fine. Me, I'll take my football played in stadiums that were actually designed for that purpose.

I think you should say Hawk fans only on this board are demanding. That's a minority number. Just wait until the next home game. Kinnick will be full or almost full.

Iowa fans as a whole are anything but demanding. And you proved my point about Iowa fans accepting average. You say Iowa is not OSU or Bama. Of course not. They expect perfect seasons every year. Iowa should shoot for 10 wins a year instead of the 7 to 8 they've been getting for the past 16 years.

By the way. My apologies for living in Chicago for 30 years. Crime, toll roads, always stuck in traffic not to mention the Sox and Cubs. That's got to be depressing. I guess Iowa football would be a break from that.

Gotta take care of business and not lose to the likes of a lowly Iowa State.

It begins with starting a QB who can get things done.

Exactly. The first 7 quarters of football this season Iowa was pathetic and based on that they don't deserve to go to even the lowliest of the bowl games.

I was impressed and happy at how the entire team played in the second half at Pitt, but dang. That's one half the entire season. They've got a LOT of business to take care of moving forward..

The BTN has us in San Francisco in the #6 slot from the BT, with OSU, MSU, Neb, WI, PSU (who should not be eligible) ahead of us. For right now, that sounds about right. But, we will get better.
