Hopefully The Hawkeyes Beat The Smart Kids Game Thread

Im at half time. Yes. Dropped balls by wide receivers. On less than ideal throws. G needs to make better gimmes when we just need 6 yards.

Most points scored in the first quarter since 2016 (16 against Purdue? 9 years ago. That makes me feel bad).

Special teams...not great. That field goal was good, though. I love that Wetjen is always pissed he didnt get to the house...despite regulalrly running back a punt for 30 yards.

I've said that defensive line is quietly special. Against this weaker team, they get sacks. Against better teams, they just dont allow you to do what you want

I dont know what to think of this game.
It was better, against a very weak team.
Bulk of passing came off a few plays (as I predicted...not exactly how I did, but close) and a bunch of sketchy short passes. A few showed a spark...throwing into a tight window.

quite happy with the misdirection plays.

G is a pretty rough thrower.

Defense is top to bottom good. I have yet to see the secondary not without a chance to make a play. Linebackers appear very disciplined. D line crushes a weak team like this and makes it very difficult for better opposing offenses.

Passing offense is still gonna struggle.

Happy to see one of my kid's friends get some time at the end. Odd they may seem to be moving him. He plays behind some of the better d-line studs. But moving him around a bit in this game. He's be a senior but has redshirt and injury time so he's only a sophomore eligibility wise. Maybe that means there's some more studs on the conveyor belt? Or maybe up by 40 they tossed him out there in that spot to get even more people in?
Either way, happy to see a really good dude getting some snaps

I was there. Surprised it sold out. Bogus tho, people starting leaving in droves in the middle of the third quarter. Yeah, it was a rout, c'mon man, stay for KF's celebration.
If I drive that far and spend that much money I’m staying till the end of the game no matter what. I’ve never on me left a football, basketball, baseball game, or a track or wrestling meet before it ended. Win or lose.

What I liked was the 2s, 3s, and 4s got REALLY good reps. You’d normally see Ferentz run up the middle and just burn clock once he’s up 30 or 40 but they kept passing, blitzing, and even went for it on 4th. This team needs that because there a are a ton of future starters out there. There’s no substitute for actual game time.

I've always thought that was way more important than people ever seem to talk about. I mean how much talk has there been about G not getting reps...in a new system. And not getting actual experience in a "big stadium" against a "big team'.

It always seemed to me like that was a major reason for playing patsies.
1. Get your team ready and confident
2. pad your wins to insure 6 to go to a bowl
3. get at least a half a quarter for your 2s and 3s mainly for next year

Same. We were in section 129 right on the 18-yard line, people around us started leaving at the start of the 4th quarter, hell at one point we were the only ones left in our row. We left only after Kirk swarmed off the field with the team.

As I understand it, three records were broken yesterday...

KF's win total of course (made the ISUx loss a *bit* more tolerable as KF got the record at home...)
95 yard punt return for TD broke the Kinnick record and tied the B1G record
MG broke the NCAA Division I career wins record for a quarterback (#51)

Pretty significant day. Glad I got to see it all in person.

P.S. Clubs seats (Pacha/Kinnick Edge) while expensive, are a damm cool experience. Worth a try for sure.
