Hoo-zure Daddy ... Momma? ... Ladies Do It Like the Guys Thread

Iowa is veteran, too. The top 6 ...
Syd - Sr
Fuer - Sr
Ogrady - Sr
Lucy - Sr
Hannah - Jr
McCabe - Jr

Problem is they're all pretty limited in their skill sets / positions and, last 4 games, they are way out of sorts.

Again, JAN's growing pains. Way too much tinkering and NO direction.

1) Get Hannah on the block! She set a frickin school game scoring record playing the 5. Yes she's undersized but she makes up for it with athleticism. She MUST score to get her head into the rest of her game and light a spark. Put her where she will produce.

2) Figure out Lucy! She was the 3rd scorer in the nation and your only setting her up to get 10-12 role player points??!! She needs to be the focus of the offense and you've gotta do some simple picks, ball movement to get her open for pick n pop mid range.

3) Where is ANY ball movement and cutting in this offense? Straight up, easy to defend passing to stationary players.

4) Define your expectations of each player.
Taylor Mc, when your on the floor, you need to shoot. We need 3s and your all we got. We also need you to loosen up the D for Hannah, Addy, Lucy to get in the lane.
Lucy, you can't make an entry pass without a turnover, so, stop it. We need you to score, NOT pass. Hannah / Addy, set a pick. Lucy, scrape off the pick and drive to lane for pull up / layup+1.

Hannah and Addy ... Post up, keep the ball high, do NOT pass it out. Addy, go left. Hannah pump fake and score+1 with right.

Syd ... Go get some rebounds and jump balls. If you have it, put it back. Otherwise, pass it out and we'll go thru 1-4, above.

Get back to just these few basics and try to look like a competent basketball team.

Excellent points

They don't seem as cohesive as earlier in the season

The first two possessions of the game: Fuerbach dribbles into nowhere land and creates a turnover. I think Affolter lost the ball or made a bad pass on the next possession. A 3rd turnover quickly followed. Down 6-0 before even getting a decent possession -- and you lose by 7. To Jensen's credit, she benched Fuerbach and Affolter soon after those turnovers. No excuse for veterans to be making those type of unforced mistakes, over and over again. Later, the technical Affolter got was not "accidental", it was purposeful, obvious, and STUPID. Afterward she's laughing about it, even tho she cost her team 2 points for absolutely no reason in a close game. That's not a team leader.
O'Grady looks like she's on some kind of pain-killer drug out there, mainly just drifting around, not doing anything with a purpose at all, until the ball somehow falls into her hands or bounces to her. She started the season so strong, now....
Completely agree Stuekle needs to get back to the 5, with Heiden subbing for her. Everyone knows Stuelke doesn't have an outside shot, so when she handles the ball around the 3pt line -- which she does a lot now -- her defender justs sags off and clogs up the lane. (BTW, Heiden looks really good and has earned more minutes.) Guyton stunk it up at Illinois, but she can penetrate AND hit the occasional 3 -- which means she needs to be on the court more. Feuerbach at least puts out defensive effort when on the court, but if she's not hitting 3s, very sporadic with little offense.
What I don't understand is why Stremlow is getting so many minutes. She doesn't shoot, doesn't score, gets a rebound here and there, turns the ball over occasionally....I mean, what's she doing during games to earn all the minutes she's getting??
Also agree there needs to be more set plays to get Olsen free.

Amen to a lot of this..
Kylie and Syd played like crap for the most part and their days of starting and playing significant mins should be about over. Let the youngsters play more. McCabe has been playing better even on the defensive end she needs to start and play more.

Guyton does too. Indiana was a tough matchup for her the 5'11 long armed gal that was matched up with her was always going to be pretty tough for her but it's good she got the experience and she didn't flinch. The experience will be beneficial to her. I'd rather see her playing hard struggling a little then Kylie out there making the same mistakes over and over and over.

Stuelke to me is frustrating. She doesn't seem to have gotten any better then the first day she got here. She's hitting the underside of the rim on shots. Airballing 2 foot shots. She has zero touch or range. She's damn near a liability out there cause as you mentioned teams don't guard her outside the FT line and not only is she incapable of making shots outside she won't even shoot at all now. Having 2 players on the floor that can't/won't shoot outside is problematic in todays game obviously.

Stremlow is a hustler. She gets rbs steals and defends out there. Yeah she isn't aggressive with shooting much she doesn't seem too confident with that part of her game yet. But I'd rather see more of her then Syd going forward.

Syd has been really disappointing. Not just her TOs and underwhelming play but that T she got was inexcusable. Everyone on X didn't seem to comprehend the difference between what a delay of game warning is usually issued for when you touch the ball coming out of the net compared to once the player for other team has possession of it. One obviously can't go knocking it away from a player like that and had it been done to us we'd have wanted the same exact call.
