Honest Question: Fball wins v BBall wins

When is the last time the Iowa Football team had more wins than the Iowa Men's Basketball team? Has that ever happened before? Is it a lock for it to happen this year?

stone-cold, lead pipe lock. Maybe the football team had more wins when they were still playing with peach baskets though I'm not sure they were even playing football back then. Well, you know what I mean. Tenn St might be the only W left, if we actually win it.

Wow...what a great question! I grew up in the 80's and was spoiled by some great Iowa teams with Marble, Armstrong, Horton...etc. It is so sad to see the state of the program right now. It seems like it isn't even a question if we are going to lose, but by how much. I don't see very many wins in the future and I really think Coach Lickliter has lost this team. It's very realistic to think the football teams 11 wins will surpass the number of wins the basketball team will have. Very, very sad. Here's hoping Brust, McCabe, Marble Jr. can come in next year and start a turnaround! Go Hawks!

I actually know the answer - 1910, 100 years ago! I actually researched this and in 1910 the basketball team won 4 games (4-8, only played 12 games) and the football team won 5 games (5-2). I have been pointing this fact out since basketball season started on twitter and here a few times.

Thanks Ryno. Not to discount your research but basically the answer then is has never happened in the modern era, this would be a first. I think in 1910 you couldn't dribble, the baskets were made of wooden buckets, and they used an inflated dinosaur bladder for the ball.

I wonder how many times it's happened in all of Division 1 sports?

No problem with your comments. Basically says what we all think...PATHETIC!!! The fact that the last time this happened was closer to when the sports were created and rules were still changing.
