Holy shit how wrong has this board been?

i have been surprised for sure and i was not expecting much. but i would caution that we still have 22+ games left and we (likely) will now be without jbo. this team is going to have to learn to play together, again, without another piece of the puzzle. i can still see a lot of potential losses for this team going forward in-conference. i don't think garza alone will be enough to hold the paint throughout 20 B1G games. we shall see.

Jordan (100%) is a great player to have down the stretch because he's money at the line. However, JoeW (79%) and CM (90%) are also money down the stretch at the line this year. And not far behind them is JT (77%).

I think a lot of Garza's "unbelievable leap" was due to the fact that he didn't have a 9 pound cyst removed a few months ago. Last year for the first couple of months he was still recovering and wasn't in good shape. This year with a full summer of workouts, he's in great physical condition.
If you noticed in the MN game, they pulled Oturu, a much more athletic person 5 min before Garza. He was gassed and needed a breather. For a guy his size it's incredible how conditioned he is.

And how many noticed last night when Garza was down after JoeW's inadvertent elbow... that Jordan came up and picked something up off the floor and handed it to the trainer? My wife and I speculated it was a part of a tooth. Yikes.

1Hawk isn’t wrong! If you take JBO off this team the juror re-enters the room!!

People are acting like Jordan was playing at the level we've seen him play the last 2 or 3 seasons....while I agree that taking him away from the mix does give the team a different dynamic, this stretch of games where Iowa has played well hasn't really been the result of great play by Jbo. If you take him off the team then you still have most of the ingredients still in the cake that has made this stretch as good as it has been. We'll miss his clutch shooting for sure....but you cats that are still around trying to sell impending doom, your days are numbered.

yeah, I saw that - it was definitely a tooth. That dude is just laying it out there and sacrificing. It's amazing to watch.

I'm kinda surprised Garza isn't wearing a mouthpiece as announcers brought up... His style of play obviously just has is face being a magnet for others arms and elbows. Abdul Jabbar I believe got goggles not because he didn't like contacts and couldn't see but because he had his eyes scratched a couple times in a short period of time so he said the heck with that and got used to wearing goggles. Garza should consider getting a mouth guard..

Correct on Abdul-Jabbar. It happened while he was in college. His cornea was scratched the game before they played Houston, who was very good and starred Elvin Hayes. So when he played he could barely see out of one eye and shot 4-18.

Seriously..... you guys made me turn on Fran when I’m reality he recruited really well and put together an amazing class and team. Might not be elite, but they know how to put the ball in the bucket and he can actually absorb attrition like TC and IM and still field and competent team
I'm eating some crow. But, keep this in mind:

-If JBo does not play, this makes things much harder for NCAAs.

-Don't underestimate Fran's ability to have his team fall apart at some point. They look good now, but the history says keep it in the back of your mind.

I'm just enjoying the overachieving at the moment. This could be a strong NCAA tournament team next year though if they keep Garza, get JBo back, and add some more pieces.

Should Fran get the blame for Bohannon's injury? Why is this even on the list of things that could change peoples' minds back to FIRE FRAN.

ha, this was a very drunk post. But

I think we might have a really really good coach, that understands what it takes to win at Iowa. I think the Moss deal, well, it appears maybe he was right in playing Connor more down the stretch last season. He gets completely blasted for his recruiting - it's time to recognize game. Iowa hasn't won at ISU since an NIT game in 2003 and the way they won? Wouldn't it be something if all the hand wringing over Fran, his contract and his kid ended up working in favor for Iowa? I mean, he's the 10th highest paid coach in the conference/// Iowa isn't really getting the raw end of this deal thus far. It just proves that most people (myself included) have almost 0 idea what they are talking about. No one on this board has a better idea about Iowa basketball then Fran

Ahh, try not to cut this board short (yourself included :) lol). Fran has really not earned that much respect. He beat the softest ISU and Syracuse teams have seen in quite sometime. The Texas Tech win was very nice though. History says Fran will screw the pooch. The Big Ten is very tough.

But, no question, it has been fun of late and there has been some unexpected wins. Garza has looked real good and Iowa has been hitting their outside shots. They are really hustling. Hopefully it continues.

No, he should not be blamed. I'm not saying that at all with this. This is a separate issue. Fran's teams could fall apart with or without JBo.

Teams will likely find a way to adjust on him. That is where it is going to be so key that they keep hitting from the outside. But, once they start facing tougher and quicker back courts (as well as front courts) in conference (and on the road) I think we will see us go back to the mean. Hope I'm wrong.

right right, I get that ....those teams were good enough last week that most predicted them both as L's, but now that we've won them they are worst teams those programs have ever rolled out. I do understand that. I will wait around for the next L so things can get back to normal around here and I can be told about how bad Fran is and how we need someone better. History tells us and history has never been wrong about nuttin.

It turns out Garza is just as good, if not better, at getting shots up than Cook was. But he makes them at a higher clip. That's a big difference right there. CJ is an all around better player than Moss too. There's the rest of the difference. We are a legit to 20 team with a banged up Bohannon. We're about to find out what we are without him. And people are crazy for downplaying ISU. They are projected as just outside the tournament right now. Those are the types of teams bad teams are supposed to lose to on the road. We kicked their ass. I get more than most on here that basketball has huge swings game to game, but we have looked like a good team for 9 1/2 games out of 11 so far. Very few teams this year have looked like a good team for that high of a percentage of games.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that we will run into a buzzsaw at least one more time this year and get smoked, probably closer to 5 more times. I can also say with about 100% certainty that every other team but maybe 5 will also run into buzzsaws and get smoked. When it inevitably happens again, we will once again suck and Fran will not know what he's doing. Well coached teams don't have off nights. They don't even have off stretches in a game.

Hey, I will give them this, it is still nice, if not pleasant to go to Syracuse and Big Top and come out of there with wins. It was very enjoyable. Very enjoyable. But, I have seen this movie script before and I'm going to let that BITCH Lucy....or a Fran Mcaffery squad pull the football out from under me again.

I'd say slow your roll a bit. Let's see what happens when JBo sits out. Keep in mind, this was not much of a Clown team Iowa just demolished.

If Fran gives the majority of JBo's minutes to Joe T, that will pay dividends in the future. If he goes a different direction...
Double digit wins in Hilton have not exactly been administered by Iowa with regularity the last fifty years regardless of the team ISU is fielding that year.

How about we don’t become so bipolar. The next time this team has a brutal night defensively(and it will happen) let’s not all lose our minds.:)
I’m not sure I agree with this.

Schizophrenia more than bipolar?
But I’ll have a different view tomorrow.
