This is based on them expecting Oklahoma getting a CFP bid over OSU. That would effectively bump everyone in the Big Ten down a bowl game, likely putting Northwestern in the Holiday Bowl rather than Iowa. I would think that the Holiday Bowl would prefer Iowa over Northwestern. Iowa has a bigger fanbase and will almost certainly travel better.

With the exception of the Sun Bowl vs Washington, every Pac 12 team we have played a Fry/Ferentz era bowl has throttled us. They have always had a huge advantage in team speed, even UCLA in the 1986 Rose Bowl.

Our Holiday Bowl history includes three games that have been decided by a total of two points (including the 13-13 tie vs Ty (appropriately) Detmer and BYU in 1991. That all being said, I'd like to see us get a fair bowl and not get bumped another rung down the ladder. If we truly are the best four loss team in the country, we should be able to hold our own against west coast speed this time.

Now if Texas beats Oklahoma, this weekend, all hell breaks loose. I suppose they would have to put tOSU in there if the Buckeyes win.

If you wanna see real hell break loose, how 'bout NW hypothetically beating OSU? Then we all get bumped down 2 notches.

Regardless of CFP, it still feels like OSU/MICH/PSU will all get NY6.
PSU at 12, in the latest CFP was HUGE!

We just need OU to beat #14 Texas in Red River Shootout - Part Deaux.
(Think 2009, needing Texas to beat Nebraska, so Iowa could go to a BCS Bowl.)

- Pac 12 is either Utah or Washington in NY6. Don't feel that result will matter.
- ACC doesn't matter. Clemson is still CFP/NY6, regardless.
- B1G doesn't matter. OSU is still CFP/NY6, regardless.
- SEC doesn't matter as both ALA/USA will be CFP/NY6, regardless.

Then, you have Citrus, Outback and Holiday with Northwestern/Iowa/Wisconsin.

Sagarin has Iowa ranked at 11.
Iowa vs Kentucky in the Citrus. The top 4 SEC above Kentucky will all be CFP/NY6.
You'd have the Iowa/Hayden Fry angle, and both fan bases will fill the stadium.
Trust me, living in Nashville, Kentucky fans turn the city blue when they have played in the Music City Bowl or SEC Basketball tournament, here.

I know Jim Delaney wants some influence in bowl selections, but still feel that the draft-style takes precedence.

People who didn't like New York City in December defintiely wouldn't like Detroit! And if they think Florida destinations are expensive wait until they go to the Bay Area. Those would not be cheap bowl packages, starting with a four hour plane flight.

They key would be Michigan State. We have to state our case to be above them in the pecking order, or all hell might breaks loose on these boards, bemoaning and rehashing all the close losses.

it really does not make difference as long as OSU wins. Either OSU is in the playoffs and Mich is in the Rose Bowl, or OSU is in the Rose Bowl and Mich is in the Fiesta or Peach. Either way nobody gets bumped down.

Now there are some other potential variables, like NW beating OSU, then NW goes to the Rose Bowl. Another variable is whether PSU gets a committee bowl bid. Either one could bump everybody up one bowl.

Good catch. We do want to pull for Northwestern. Move everyone else up.

I’d love to see OK and OSU and Clemson win

AND

Georgia beat Bama.

No way they’re leaving Bama out. No way.

CFP blowup leaving 3 conference champion blue bloods out and just an ACC/SEC Invite.

That’d make a huge stride for 8 teams

Ok, I take this back. It does make a difference whether OSU or Oklahoma makes the playoffs.

If OSU makes the playoffs and there are no upsets, then PSU probably gets the last NY6 spot.

If Oklahoma makes the playoffs, and there are no upsets, then Texas goes to the Sugar Bowl as the Big 12 rep, and gets the last NY6 spot. Then PSU does not make it to a NY6 bowl and everybody gets bumped downed 1 spot.

That would completely pizz NW off as Iowa was selected over them in the past. I think their fan base, all 15 of them would truly become unhinged.

Is it politically correct to leave out all the rest of the teams in America? Personally, I am offended every year that we are not invited.:D

I personally wouldn't mind if Iowa got bumped down to the Music City Bowl. It's driving distance and I might take the family on a little vacation.

Last year sucked, I had a hotel room reserved and was ready to purchase tickets when the bowl matchups were announced.

This is what I've been hoping for for weeks. Reeeally hoping for this so they'll expand to an 8-team playoff.
