Hockenson a Mackey Award Finalist

The voters got it right. Hockenson is the more complete tight end. I have not seen the other guys on the list play so I can't say if Fant is better than them or not. Regardless I find it hard to believe that the award organizes would have two finalists from the same school
 
Congratulations to T.J.! The guy has made some unbelievable plays this season, and I hope we get to see a lot more in the Black and Gold!
 
Was there really any question that they wouldn't choose both of them for this? No way that happens. Happy for CJ, clear choice to win the award of these 3, but truly believe Noah should've been on this list as well.
 
Sweeney, from Boston College, is also a finalist.

He had a nice game against us in the Pinstripe Bowl. Had that long TD catch and run.

I 100% believe Fant has been misused this year, so don’t take this as me defending Ferentz or anything like that, but...

TJ has 160 more yards from scrimmage, 3.2 more yards avg, fewer drops, and the same number of touchdowns as Fant, but (believe it or not), only two more plays from scrimmage than Fant (40 for Hockenson vs 42 for Fant). Regardless of it being Ferentz’s fault or not, TJ has by far and away the better numbers on paper, and he also makes a lot more “splashy” plays that get in highlight films when he hurdles DBs and makes one handed grabs.

Again, it’s not Noah’s fault he’s been underused, but TJ is head and shoulders better this year stats wise.
 
I think we have two excellent TE's.
I think Fant isn't on the list because A everyone already knows his name and he is already going to get drafted. These things are like news stories, they are trying to be the first with the scoop.
B because as Fryowa pointed out, TJ has excellent numbers.
I also agree with Hawk1960 that Fant absolutely should be motivated for this coming game as well as a bowl game. Last couple chances to put an exclamation mark on his career and behind the $ amount.
I also agree that getting two from the same school on the list is probably never going to happen, regardless of stats and numbers.
 
If the voters watch some of Hockensen blocking his guys 10 yards down the field as well as his hurdling some defenders lately, I suspect he will get the award. They all have similar yardage numbers...

His blocking skills can make the difference, I hope!
 
If Fant had Hockenson’s numbers then both could be on the final list. It wouldn’t matter if they were from the same school. In fact, that award/organization would get all kinds of free press.

But Fant doesn’t have Hockenson’s numbers.
Primarily — I heard 169 fewer snaps. About 15 fewer per game.

If true, that is mind-numbingly malfeasance by the TE coach—OC—HC or a combo of those. and Chris Fant should get plenty of *like*.

Wait, isn’t the OC/TE already a combo?
