Hock and Fant - tight race

As of today both he and TJ have nice stats for their freshman campaign. Fant has a slight edge statistically. Just an FYI for the vast majority who predicted TJ would have the better NFL career. Have to wonder how many points we left on the field his junior year. I'm thinking at least 5 or more TDs. :(
So because Fant has stats that are a little bit better 3/4 of the way through their Rookie seasons, it means Hockenson won't have a better career? I'm curious how you came to that conclusion, that's quite an interesting analysis

Can we at least acknowledge that the Fant abuse should end. He's earned the right to get the same respect as other Hawkeyes. And he's proven he's every bit the TE as his teammate.

The whole argument has gotten polarized just like everything else does these days. First there was criticism aimed at the coaching staff for not utilizing Fant enough. Some of that criticism went to the point of calling the coaching staff clueless and vindictive against Fant. Than it became apparent that Hockenson was very talented as well. That grew into a counter argument, that eventually went overboard against Fant. Than Fant got called out in NFL camp for some of his work habits. That got totally overblown.

To some people, you are either a hero or a goat. I don't think anyone is the goat on this one. Not Fant, Hockenson or the Iowa coaching staff. Do all the above have their shortcomings at what they do. Like everyone else, yes. We are talking about shortcomings at a very high level of functioning though.

Stats are misleading because TJ didn't play a few games and was also without one of the better Qbs in the league for most of the year.

Fant was also underutilized in my opinion when Flacco was in at their at QB. The Offense seemed to open up later in the year for him.

I want thank cousin-breeder-stalker for not posting in this thread. I also want to say that Fant finished his rookie season with better stats. TJ is awesome, but Fant's talent was under-used IMO for petty reasons. I hope going forward we won't cost ourselves games because of the pride of those with unbreakable contracts.
