It was my opinion that Barta could not afford a ho-hum hire, but that is what we ended up with. I cannot say anything bad about the guy until I see him leading our team on the court. But forgive me if I'm a bit worried. This hire does not energize the fan base at all, and that is something this program sorely needed. It makes me wonder if we just got turned down by a lot of coaches or if Barta thought he can only hire from the mid-major pool? I think Barta's career at Iowa hangs in the balance with this hire, so he better be damn sure about Fran McCaffery. I'll support this team always and I hope that he succeeds here, but he's going to have to overcome a lot of skepticism in this fan base. That is the sad reality.

Well when you have a half token chance of getting either of those guys it doesn't really make sense to make anything but a token attempt at them.

My guess is that everyone in the country outside of delusional Iowa fans knew there was no reason for those guys to come to Iowa. They were right.
