Hire James Ferentz

I'd like to see KF hire someone who is the same boat as he was when Hayden Fry hired him. A very young coach who wasn't expecting to be interviewed, much less offered the job, is an excellent teacher, grateful, loyal and KF could kind of groom him exactly how he wants in technique, philosophy, etc. History has a way of repeating itself.
That would make a good Hallmark movie, but in practice it’s no different than picking lottery numbers

Yeah I don’t think it’d ever happen but I think he’d be a good one to have on staff.

Ideally to me, BF takes a HC job somewhere else and James would be a candidate. But wishful thinking + $0.50 won’t even get you a cup of coffee.
I thought BF might be looking to get HC experience in the MAC or somewhere at a lower level too. My guess is he wants to be a HC down the road in big time D1 but since taking over for Daddy will be an impossibility that jumping somewhere else sooner then later seemed possible. Maybe still is who knows.

I have posted this before, but the only way the BF fever dream happens is if Iowa has a truly historic season. Go undefeated and make the playoffs type season (I cannot dare to actually type the words National Championship). If that were to happen, and Brian's offense performed well, which it would seem to have to, then I could see KF announcing he was retiring in two seasons and Brian was the head coach in waiting so there would be a smooth transition of the program. It would be hard for many fans or alums to grouse too much at that moment.

Anything short of that, I think there is too much noise to just hand the program to an unproven head coach with mediocre credentials as an OC and some personality baggage

Regardless of what we think of BF personally, or whether nepotism got him his current position, or how much we dislike Iowa’s offense, BF has a very solid resume’. Excellent player in his day, NFL experience, line coach experience, tight ends coach experience, and OC in a very solid BT/Power Five program. I am not sure what Iowa’s win/loss record has been since he became OC, but I would guess it’s pretty good. How much he has contributed to Iowa’s recent success? I would bet his resume’ will be seen positively by potential employers. Yes, he may have to start at the MAC level, or maybe above. Will he become the head coach at Iowa when KF retires? Time will tell, but I doubt it. A lot may depend on where Iowa’s value is at that time.

That definitely wouldn't happen. It'd be lawsuit city at a public university. He'd have to go through the same interview and vetting process as anyone else, and if anyone on the staff so much as hinted at BF (or anyone else) being the chosen one before the hiring process started the school would get Tracey Greasebomb-level lawsuits.
