Hire a Defensive Asst. Coach

I'm sorry, we need help on the defensive side of the ball...whether it's scheme or whatever...Fran's teams have never been lock down type of teams. Our last NIT team was probably Fran's best defensive team...with Eric May leading the way. If you watch other good teams play man, they are much more cohesive in cutting off penetration. When we are in man, it looks like guys (Bohannan) are completely on an island. We just don't play team defense. I think we need some fresh meat in the coaching staff with a defensive slant. Just my two cents.

Is it that Fran doesn't understand defense enough to coach it good, or just that he chooses to spend more time practicing offense?

Long-term goal -- focus on offense first for young guys.

Defense will come. It showed flashes at the end of the season. But ... #freshmen

No panic. I don't want Wisconsin basketball in the 50-60s. I want Iowa basketball in the 80s which means opponents scoring in 70s.

Lack of D = Lack of speed mostly. Have 2 players lacking in speed on court puts whole team behind on D. Usually a big is slow not pt guard.

Defensive rotation. It was awful at the beginning of the year, it got better as the season progressed, but it always seems someone is late getting out on a shooter. A step behind in cutting off penetration. Weak side help was terrible against TCU......TCU's ball movement looked so great because Iowa's weak side help was so bad.

With this group I think it is just getting more experience I really don't think a staff change is necessary.

Agreed. There were times where jok played good D but overall didn't help much on that side of the ball. Having just one guy slack on D can kill any rotation.

Defense is a game of anticipation & at times I think Fran has the wrong combo of kids in there.....our kids either can't get a "stop" themselves or there's no weak side help....we lose sight of our kids on offense for just a split second and it's 2, or a 3 ball....you have to want to stop your guy, you have to want to get the ball back...
