Hilliard Chooses Ohio State

I don't think there is such a thing as an "elite recruiter" to a school like Iowa. Bobby Kennedy has a pretty darn good recruiting reputation and he isn't landing 4 and 5 stars. Perhaps a guy like James Franklin could see enough kids to come here that he could win, but it would be an interesting case study.

Iowa is not a traditional power; Iowa does not sit in a rich talent geography; Iowa does not have a large population. Very few coaches can recruit elite talent to non-historically elite programs. Same reasons Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Minnesota don't recruit at elite levels and Nebraska has had quite a bit of historical success and Wisconsin recent success.

I would also add that we have iowa state in our own backyard absolutely killing it on the recruiting trail. They have tons of momentum in case you didn't know. The trajectory of that juggernaut just continues to go up...other than wins of course.

Don't worry guys, the staff will identify a couple of 2-star diamonds that will polish up quite nicely to fill in for these guys.

We haven't gotten "these type of recruits" in 14 years under Ferentz. He plays the Moneyball game with recruiting and quite frankly, I'm happy with 8 win seasons with an occasional 10 win season thrown in considering what type of talent we have. I appreciate it more than I have in the past. It's just reality of who we are.

I get a little concerned thinking about who replaces Kirk when that time comes because if they don't develop the players and use the "Moneyball" approach to recruiting then we are going to a bottom feeder unless we get a elite recruiter/salesman (anti-Kirk) as a head coach. But that is way down the road. Just focusing on what we have now, enjoy what we do have at Iowa.

Exactly, the 2000's were the winningest decade in Iowa football history, and we didn't get these guys. I don't see how adding a win or two would change anything in the near future.

Where is the I'd rather have 2* guys because they "work harder" than 5* guys guy?
In my opinion, there may be 2 or 3 guys in the country who could get 5* guys to come to Iowa City right now....and they won't be coming here anytime soon. Sure, I would rather have 5* guys. That would be great. But we are who we are, and if you can't get the 5* guys, then I want a coach who can develop guys who want to play for Iowa into great football players. For the most part, KF and his staff have done that. Yeah we had a bit of a rocky period, but hopefully we are getting things back on track after an 8-4 season.

Shock Shock, Iowa had 0% chance of every getting him anyway

Interesting little piece...........U. Meyer looks for all the angles when it comes to recruiting. Now it's OSU parents recruiting players. This guy works for free and is titled "helper" (I love it). I can see it being effective especially when parents are in attendance with their sons. According to Justin's father this guy was very instrumental in the recruiting process.

Having witnessed the kind of coach--and worse, PERSON--Urban Liar is from his days at Florida, we need to get used to the fact that O$U will keep cycling these guys through. Whether they get caught and "quit" (wink wink) a la Tressel, lose to Michigan too many times a la John Cooper or hit an opposing player a la Woody Hayes, the rest of the B1G will always have to deal with the $EC scumbag environment that has, frankly, permeated O$U since Woody Hayes arrived.

The Earle Bruce-lost-to-Iowa-and-got-fired occurrences are the extreme rarity.
