High ranked Wrestlers a disappointment so far

What’s up with Iowa wrestlers ranked #2 getting upset by far less ranked wrestlers? Drake has got beat 2 times by far less ranked wrestlers. Not just beat but beat by 6 or more points. Caliendo got upset by a double digit ranked wrestler.

Now against ISU Drake and PK both got spanked by lesser ranked wrestlers. And of course bonus points seem to be minimal.

Is this a case of Brands stuck in the old days where 2-1 was a common score. Hawks seem to be regressing since the scoring rules have changed.

Iowa wrestling has become stagnant and has fallen way behind PSU, while many other teams have caught up to them and passed them by as well. They'll be lucky to finish in the top 3 or 4 come the NCAA's. There's only a few guys on this roster that hunt for takedowns and the rest wrestle defensively.

Problem is who can you bring in to lead this program if the coaching staff is let go. I just don't see it getting better anytime soon. Iowa wrestling is a lot closer to being an afterthought than a title contender.

They spoke to Brands at intermission. And he summed it up pretty well. Beyond Caliendo and possibly Ayala, offense is lacking for the most part. I will actually throw Kennedy in there too. He just got caught, but at least was attempting shots. Otherwise, it seemed most of our wrestlers did not wrestle with a sense of urgency and it took them 2 periods to start looking for their shots. Frustrating.
