Higdon's announcement

Did he ever tell Ferentz he was flipping? I heard his twitter still said he was going to Iowa he never did change that. Wouldn't surprise me if he just never told Ferentz a thing and this morning did what he did... That's recruiting I reckon... They better get a couple good rbs next year that's for sure.

A few months ago it looked like Iowa could have 2 4 star running backs coming in. Smith cheats on ACT test and Higdon leaves Iowa at the altar. Don't get hurt Canzeri!

Smith was ACCUSED of cheating. The proctor of the test never offered proof that Smith cheated, only an accusation. And then, his test was thrown out.

Kids these days are making terrible choices. This fool had a good opportunity to improve his life. He threw it all away. Now he is getting into a dead end situation.

Other than your first sentence, which I'm choosing to selectively un-apply to the rest of the post, I don't agree with any of this.

1. Kids these days are making choices...can't argue with that. Kids 20 years ago were making terrible choices too. But this is not one of them, unless choosing between 2 fantastic D1 institutions to further your academic and athletic career would be considered a terrible choice.

2. "Fool"? Really? He had an opportunity to improve his life...and he took it. He's going to Michigan on a full ride athletic scholarship, where he'll have an opportunity to get a top notch education as well as excel on the football field.

3. How exactly did he throw away his opportunity? See #2 above...he accepted a full ride scholarship to the University of Michigan.

4. Michigan just got a brand new head coach (who can recruit!) who several years ago turned Stanford from a Pac12 doormat to a national title contender. Compare that to our current situation here at Iowa. Now put yourself in this kid's shoes, try to leave any bias out of it...what decision would you make?

I get that this is your schtick is around here, but you're embarrassing yourself with this post.

I would go to Iowa without hesitation. They treat players well even if they get injured and are unable to play. I believe that was AJ Edds reason to choice Iowa. They have excellent facilities and atmosphere. They have a top notch strength and conditioning for me to improve my game. They develop players well for the NFL if I wanted to do that. I believe they were one of the top teams in the big 10 as far as players in the nfl goes. Academically they are great in many fields including engineering, medical and other high demand fields. There is no better place to be a student athlete.

YOU would because you're an Iowa fan. I asked you to put yourself in Higdon's shoes and make an unbiased decision. Which of the statements made above can't also be applied to Michigan, or in some cases even moreso apply to Michigan?

Excellent facilities? Check.
Excellent atmosphere? Check. (Also of note...Iowa probably fared a little better on this item, say, 5 years ago.)
Top notch S&C program? Check.
Develop players for the NFL? Check.
Academic excellence? Check.
No better place to be a sudent athlete? Open to interpretation.

I find nothing wrong with repping your school of choice, but when you make ridiculous statements like you did in the initial post I quoted, up to and including insulting the kid making the decision, you aren't representing yourself very well.

Iowa does have more players in the nfl than Michigan does. There atmosphere is not good there. Weren't the students and others staging mass boycotts of the games? That does not sound like a great place to play. Eric Graham is better anyways, so let him struggle with the 20 point per game Michigan offense.

He can do what he wants, but it was the most d-bag move, even worse than Ross P.

He was tweeting/fb-ing fellow recruits and talking about meeting up at the spring game.

Frankly, if he gets injured or never plays a down, or becomes a star, either way he has a serious character flaw handling it that way.

Do you really think Michigan's offense will continue to only put up 20 ppg? Not flaming here, but offensively they can only go up where we've hit our ceiling. I think in terms of offensive production in 4 years, if not sooner, Michigan offense will be rolling while ours is still sputtering along.

He was probably still leaning toward the black and gold at that time and didn't think the funds would arrive on time. Honestly I'm glad he did things this way with the other recruits as it may have kept them from jumping ship or reconsidering. If one of the gems of the class decommitted a week or two ago others may very easily have started to rethink things.

Iowa has won 4 out of the last 5 games vs Michigan. This is not just a 1 year problem at Michigan. Anyone can say they will score more points but until they show it on the field it's just words. If one thinks the coach will make the difference his team was ranked 25th out of 32 teams in scoring points per game last year. I don't see him being a big help at all.

Agreed, and historically Michigan has been one of the top teams in the BIG and one of the biggest names nationally. You really think they'll remain in the gutter? Look at the impact Harbaugh's already made since replacing Hoke. I think there will be a major improvement in results, because Hoke was clueless. I'm not saying they'll be a top 10 offense, but I wouldn't be shocked if they were top 50 in a year or two and continue to climb.

Wait, so you're making the transitive leap that because his NFL offense was ranked 25th last year, he won't be able to do anything at Michigan? You can't be serious...

Here's the little bit I know about Harbaugh:

* Got Stanford out of the bottom of the Pac12 in a very short amount of time
* Within 2 or 3 years had them in a bowl game
* Within 4 years had them winning a BCS bowl game (they probably finished top 5 that year, too)
* Ran a very B1G-like offense at Stanford better than pretty much every other B1G team

There is no lack of star power at Michigan...someone posted a chart in another thread about the number of recruits by star level and the 2013 class, in particular stood out. Those kids will be RS Soph and Juniors this year, and there were more than 25 kids, I think, that were a 3.5 star or above...given that the offensive identity isn't making a radical shift (such as it did from Lloyd Carr to RichRod), the possibility is very real that the Michigan offense will be much improved within a couple years, if not next year.

You might not see him being a big help at all, but you're probably in a pretty small minority there, given that Harbaugh was the #1 coaching free agent during the scramble for coaches over the past couple months. Harbaugh could have named his price and went almost anywhere, an opportunity not afforded to someone you "don't see...being a big help at all."

Maybe he flipped to Michigan because he didn't want to have to go against Bo Bower every day in practice for the next 3 years.

Hadn't thought of it that way. Good point.

This pic makes me care somewhat less about losing this guy. Still, F U Harbaugh. Dude's still bitter about '85 and took it out on Iowa's already iffy class.

My cousin the Michigan fan has bragged all day about stealing him away. Makes me sick that he flipped to Michigan on NSD!

Kid had enough class to offer to be a part of the guest list on the KCJJ Recruiting Extravaganza radio program that took place this weekend with Rob Howe and Pat Harty. He took questions over the phone about the entire process and explained how things played out and why he made the tough decision he made.

Basically he put academics over athletics in the final analysis and felt MI would offer him the best going forward in his life.

Heard him on the show as well. I thought he came off as a very smart and articulate kid. Said if the choice was about football and people/coaches, he would have gone to Iowa. Yet he knows that football might not always be an option, so he put his education above that and said he based his decision on where he would go if football wasn't an option. Can't argue with that as a undergrad from Meechegan >> Iowa.
