Hey Woody, who's next for the Cubs?

Are you thinking there's a chance Girardi will come back? If not, then who? Tony Pena? Mike Maddux? Torey Lovullo? Brad Ausmus? Who ya got? Lots of young talent in the minors and lots of freed up cash to spend in the next few years. Could actually be an attractive position to some.

I have no clue. You would think the next manager is the guy who would be managing when the next wave (Solar, Baez, etc.) make it to the majors. Do you get an established guy like Girardi who may have to endure another down year before things hopefully start to turn around? Or, do you go after a young guy who will hopefully grow with the team? At this point, I have no idea. The names you mentioned are a start.

:D

Dale was pretty much a lame duck for 2 years. Feel bad for him but he knew there wasn't going to be a lot of wins when he took the job.Go get Girardi.

First choice would be Girardi, but I don't have a good feeling about that one. I'm thinking it will be a guy like Brad Ausmus.

I think one of his biggest problems was that Castro and Rizzo didn't progress the way you would want future stars to progress. Neither had good numbers this year, and, knowing you're not going to win, developing them further was job one.

Girardi is the target however will the Cubs be able to pull him away from Yankee money?
Have they offered him anything yet? I keep hearing that the Yankees want to scale back and only have a $135 million payroll. I'm not sure they will overpay for a Manager. Whether we like them or not, the Yankee Manger job is very prestigious, and they probably won't have too much trouble attracting a solid Manager for less money.

I'm kind of curious. Who would you want to be the next Cubs manager if you could have ANY manager/coach. I think I'd take Showalter, just because of what he's done with the young guys at Baltimore. Was always a Scioscia fan, but he's kind of floundered lately. Ron Washington is another of my favorites, but maybe only for sentimental reasons, because of how bad I felt for him coming so close twice.

Joe Maddon is perhaps the best manager in the game. Thinks outside the box, has worked with many young players and a low payroll. That said, If I were the Cubs, I would interview Dave Martinez who is his bench coach. Dave is a former Cub, can relate to the Latin guys, and has worked under Maddon long enough now you'd think he's probably picked up quite a few ideas from him and learned a lot. Not saying we hire him ASAP, but I would definitely give an interview...intriguing option. Obviously I would take Maddon but that ain't happening.

Maddon. Totally forgot to put him on my list. Good call.

Martinez would be a really good choice. He has been a big part of the Rays' success over the past 6 years.

Maddon would be fun. Martinez would be a good choice as well. No on Ron Washington. Sorry.

The Yankees are trying to sign Girardi and Cano. How about we trade them Sveum and Barney and call it even.

Isn't the lizard Dusty Baker available?

Kidding aside, I also saw a snippet about Greg Maddux...I'd rather the next manager have some experience, but man I think Mad-dog would make a great pitching coach.
