Hey Capt.,I hope you’re watching ND game

Not a chance. The only year they may have sniffed the BCS with a 12 team is 2015.
Were you alive in 2002? We had one flukey loss to ISU and were undefeated in conference play. If there had been a four team playoff we would have made it that year. We were AP #3 at the end of the regular season, but you are saying we wouldn't have made a 12 team playoff? You must have started happy hour early.

2015, again, we make it for sure. One loss in the conference title game. That is a better record than OSU and the same as Indiana this year. Not even a close call. We would have been in.

2009 is the only debatable year. We were 10th at the end of the season with a flukey loss to NW due to our QB getting injured and we almost beat the Bucknuts in Columbus with our backup. I think we would have made it, but the other two are not even debatable. Bad take, dude.

Good point. Credit to them. They are a good team. They also have quite a bit more talent than most.

I'm NOT a Notre Dame fan, but was encouraged by some of their sportsmanship yesterday, when compared to other teams I've seen recently.

Notre Dame used to be a National Power, year after year

They seem to play with a level of sportsmanship that is rare these days

I was encouraged to root for Notre Dame at Dowling High School

Thanks for those reminders. I was at the 2002 loss to ISU AND the loss to MSU in Indy. Those were core trauma memories for me!!!

Wake me up when we have a roster that is on par with Notre Dame's. Hint: It ain't gonna happen.

encourage the student-athletes to enroll at the University of Iowa

Against relatively equal rosters, Iowa has done quite well in recent years. This includes Illinois, Wisky, Minny, NW, Nebby, and ISU.

Against OSU, Michigan, Tennesee, and the like, we fare very poorly. I know we're all enjoying the playoffs right now, and in order to get to and win a couple of games, it takes talent. I actually DO think KF coaches three star players "up", and he also has an eye for potential. Having said that, here's the 24/7 2025 team recruiting rankings. Note that 6 of the top 12 teams are playoff teams from this year.

Honestly didn’t go back to 2005 since it was 20 years ago! No chance in 2009, we finished regular season play ranked #13 and by last count that’s outside the top 12 and we weren’t a conference champ.

I did not mention 2005, so not sure where you got that. KF was in fact the coach in 2002 and there is no debate Iowa would have made a 12 team playoff that season as I stated in my post that you responded to.

2015 is also beyond debate. Not a close call at all.

As for 2009, you are again incorrect. Iowa finished the regular season ranked 10th by both AP and the BCS rankings. See below. The four major conference champions, plus Boise St. were all ranked ahead of Iowa, so there was no autobid to jump Iowa. So it was highly likely under the current formula that Iowa would get in as an at large playoff team.

So again, 3 times KF would have made the playoffs.

Lest we forget, Iowa and other public universities are supported by local taxpayer dollars and responsible to their state legislators. They
better have flexible standards of admission to include local applicants. Iowa does, BTW.

Aw Geez North, there you go again…

I was at the MSU game in Indy. I had lower bowl seats on the 15 yard line where MSU scored the game winning TD. We were less than a foot away from an undefeated season. I drank a lot that night after the game.
My son and I were there too, but in the complete opposite corner and in the endzone. We saw it end on the big screen.

The depressing part for me is watching the replay from the top view. Josey Jewell was essentially tackled from behind by an offensive lineman (#75) right as he got to Scott. That's why he couldn't drive through and wrap up. A terrible blown call in a situation like that.

Why would you make me watch that again? I now want to find a bar in Indianapolis and drink 13 vodka Red Bulls again.

(I see what you are saying, but that type of things isn't getting called there. Iowa had plenty of guys out there and should have gotten him down, but that RB made a bad ass play)

LOL. Same.

I disagree about the non-call, though.

Watch it frame-by-frame.

Josey was in perfect position and had stood him up. The only thing left was to step in and drive through for the tackle, but that became impossible when the lineman tackled him from behind, completely immobilizing his lower body (in that situation, once you get extended and can't move your feet you're basically done).

With where Josey was positioned, the other Iowa defenders didn't have the proper angle/leverage to hit a strong player like Scott with the proper vector. Hence, he was able to gather himself and power through.

It's an obvious hold that got missed and pains me to this day.
