Lucy delivers big again!
Syd has a gutsy, "Welcome back, baby!" game!
Hannah - another all-around game. Almost double-double Just so solid.
So much better when she's inside.
Youngsters flashed at opportune times. As mentioned after TN, really like Stremlow and Guyton over McCabe. Just a more athletic, dynamic energy.
Gotta get Addy and Kylie back to November form and work on free throws.
Was confident coming in (unlike men, who have little to no chance tomorrow without divine intervention). They had to work a little harder than I expected but GREAT effort and a very good W!

I only watched a bit of the first half and the 4th quarter. It's like watching a football game sometimes. And ISU is good. I didn't want to see the Hawks lose...to ISU.
Was ISU gassed? Also, do they have someone major sitting out with injury? They really did not look like they wanted it at all in the 4th quarter. Not taking anything away from The Hawks. They played the 4th like they're capable of playing...and with intensity.
Lucy is the perfect match for this team in every single way. On and off court. I'm telling you, this team and program is different. Their sucess starts with talent, but ends with a joy of playing with and for each other. I get a lot of ncawbb social media. And this program has a seriously marvelous culture of enjoying the game and enjoying the team. I swear I can see the results of this on the court.
I'm gonna submit that the new glue is Jada. Largely behind the scenes, she's tying the spirit of the last few years and bringing the transfers and freshmen into the knot.

Free throws certainly helped
We were 15-25 and the clowns were 6-16
We had 17 fouls called on us and the clowns had 25
We had 12 steals to their 5
We had 9 turnovers to their 21
They only had 2 players who scored double figures: Addy had 31 and Addy Brown had 13
It was all Addy who is a handful in every way, I was surprised how skillful she was
Our Defense was the deciding factor, and Syndey Affolter was key with 16 points
And LUCY
Our defense the key this season, the freshmen are playing soldi and strong and Tough
this is a fun team to watch, Jen is an excellent coach, and I like the way the Hawks play
Full tilt on offense and Solid D are the keys
Not really too much of a dropoff without Caitlin

Yeah they were Gassed for certain
Addy only played 19 minutes
And scored 31
Our D was intense guarding her but she is a handful
Yeah, this team is special for certain, they play together and Hard
I was surprised how much the freshmen were playing from the start of the season, but
they are a solid part of the team, they come in and contribute immediately and play
without fear and with Intensity
It's All Good
I still don't understand that. And how far back in time can they go? So odd. It wasn't even that bad. She got her on the side of the face yes. But it was from a follow through. Had no wind up to it or anything. Give her a foul and play on but 2 FTs and the ball was too much.

The Hawks have a zebra problem here and there
In the Tennessee game Lucy was Smashed with forearm to the face, pounded to the floor, her face
had blood on it, and the zebras didn't call a flagrant
The tennessee woman didn't even try to block the shot, all face, no ball

I wandered over to Cyclone Fanatic to read the comments about the game. They have a 39 page thread compared to this 4 page thread. There a lot of whining about the referees, their head coach, and the play of some of their team. It is suggested that the SWARM pumped a lot of NIL money into the Iowa's women's program. A few comments recognized Iowa has recruited well, but I would say the vast majority dismissed that their is a talent gap.
Jensen had a really cohesive unit on the floor when it came winning time. Stuelke, Affolder, Stremlow, Feuerbach, and Olsen. She substituted Guyton for Feuerbach for offense. Stuelke moved to the 5 and Affolder took the 4 role. That is a really fast lineup that plays defense and when Guyton comes in for offense it opened up the lanes. Affolder took advantage of it with two driving lay ups.
There was good play by everyone and you can see the freshmen are more ready for what is ahead.

Hell of a win. Got off to a slow start. Audi was her normal unstoppable self right from the jump. ISU was hitting 3s and I had my doubts as the game went on. It felt like Lucy was all we had going for us on O. But we got it going. Then Syd hit some shots (SYD IS BACK FOLKS!!!) Hannah got involved we hung around and things got better late in 3rd and we owned the 4th q.
Inject more of Guyton please. That girl is fearless. No hesitation if she's open she shoots. I'd give her 80% of McCabes mins right now and I'd think about getting her in starting lineup before the yr is up. Of all the freshmen she's got the skill to really contribute at putting the ball in the hoop.
Ava has the size but like most post players it's gonna take her a couple yrs till we see the best of her and that's fine. Stremlow is awesome for her D and overall aggressiveness. Sooner or later I would think the refs will start calling traveling on Audi. My goodness it's ridiculous what she gets away with. Need I say she fouls a lot also.
I kept waiting for Jan to make some adjustments and just about gave up hope she would. Going small was the absolute call! Can't say enough about Hannah and her 4th quarter effort on Audi. Gutsy 4th quarter by the Hawks and it should give them all kinds of confidence moving forward.

That play when I think it was Hannah drove into the lane and they collided and ball went out of bounds they didn't call a foul on Audi. I was like wtf... At another point in the game they called a foul on Kylie for breathing on a player that was driving to the hoop she barely touched her with one hand. The refs at this level really have a tough time being consistent and Jan let em hear it. I was surprised we didn't get her first T.
Pretty amazing the advance in defense.
Can't imagine it all comes down to Jensen. It's not like she didn't have a voice in the past.
I think it comes down to necessity, new talent (young), different talent, and just a slight shift in play directed by Jensen.
Just a different dynamic. Equally fun to watch. Especially with Olsen on the court as well.
As good as Clark's deep shots were backbreakers...
Olsen's midrange jumper is quite almost as equally beautiful. And almost more enraging for opponents because of the successful percentage. She can rip one off at any time.
