Besides I figure the more interested a person is, the more they will want to learn. So let them learn.
You know nobody would have cared if Tesla or Einstein barely passed some elective class or if it was an afterthought.
Basically the way it's set up, it is very possible to discourage and bore someone who could have been a genius in whatever it is they liked.
Although I do understand the need for such classes as basic behavior and social skills because as more jobs are online and as more kids grow up playing games and such, the human interaction skills have plummeted. Different conversation, but in that area, society is sliding and its sad. From pajamas in public to just plain being rude, to internet toughness. Compounded by the fact the parents don't have time, don't see a problem, or just don't care and it's not looking like it's going to get better without mandatory education.
