Here's a hypothetical ?

Just for fun.

What's the score of the Iowa vs Illinois-Springfield game if Lickliter was still coaching the team?

I'll say 68 - 52 Iowa

What's the score if Fran & Lickliter both had this years players that played a game against each other?

Interesting question.. Should get some interesting respondes here. I think you're score for Lick's team in this exhibition game is pretty much right on. I guess I'll say something like 71-54.

This year's players coached by McCaffery vs. the same group coached by Lickliter? That's a tougher score to pick.

The slower paced team usually seems to dictate the tempo, so I would anticipate a more half-court game, not a game in the 90's. But I think Frans group would take advantage of some opportunies in transition where Lick's team would pull back. Fran's team has a totally different mentality than Lick's team, which is key. I'd say something like this:

Fran's group: 77
Lick's group: 64

Using this years squad only Licks team wins by less than 20 points in a modest scoring game. I would probably have to call it 67 to 53.

The problem with this hypothetical is that half the team wouldn't be here.

Drop all of the walk-ons, drop Basabe and add the kid that went to Florida, drop Cartwright and add Lil' Lick as the backup PG and add the kid that went to Wisky.

We lose athleticism in the paint (Basabe v Florida), we lose a true backup PG (Lil Lick v Cartwright) and we gain a player that would be playing behind May (wisky kid) so he wouldn't see the floor much. The team looks completely different, lacks athleticism and would win no more games this year than last year (guaranteed). We probably lose another player or two based on rumors from last year as well. The future looks dull and gray under Lick and it looks flashy with a glimmer of sunshine that could quickly turn into a bright sunny day under Fran.
