Here is to the end of the rivalry

Assuming we'll be playing 9 league games, I'd like to see us put together a "crescendo" 3-game, pre-league schedule. easy...harder....hardest.

Cupcake....Iowa State...top-25 team. As others have said, this will certainly help us ascertain just where we are coming into league play.

If you toss out Ball State this year, we have exactly that scenerio (EIU, ISU, AZ).

Thus, I would be in favor of continuing to play ISU if they were the #2 game (or Gawd forbid #3) in this scenerio.
Not possible unless ISU will be coming to Kinnick every year.

Every other year then.
Still not possible unless you can convice a top 25 team to come to IC every other year. Assuming ISU is a home and home (with it in IC when we have 4 conference home games), the other two games must always be home games to get us to 7.

I like your idea, don't get me wrong, it's just not feasible though. If we stick with ISU, the other two teams are going to be 'cupcakes' that come to Kinnick.

The other factor in this is that ISU is likely going to a 9 game conference schedule at some point too. For this rivalry to continue at that point, the Big 10 and Big 12 would have to sync up the Iowa and Iowa State schedules so that they're not playing the same number of home conference games.

I felt this way before I went to Iowa City. Now that I have graduated and left, I couldn't care less about this "rivalry." Virtually no one in Iowa City cares about this game. Seriously. Beating Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin are far more satisfying. Beating Nebraska will probably be just as good.

Outside of Ames and the DSM metro, nobody cares about this game because the game doesn't matter.

This is correct...if you dont count students nobody inside of IC really cares about the Iowa State game. Do you know why? Because there arent any annoying cyclone fans here. I live and work in Iowa City and have yet to talk to a Cyclone fan all week. If you take away the message board I have had zero real interaction with ISU fans.

That is why the majority of the IC population just view this as another game

I think you're pretty wrong there. If that was true I don't think myself and 1000's of other students would have gone from IC to Ames while I was in school just to tailgate and bash on my friends that are ISU fans.

College students are different because they have friends at school in ames...I think he was referring to the "adult" population

You cant really explain it unless you live here. Just know that there is no real talk radio here so we dont listen to Cyclone fans calling in and riling up Hawk fans

I think a rivalries most important factor is the fans, and for both ISU and Iowa fans this is the best that we have. Neighbors against neighbors, brother vs. brother, you vs. that annoying guy at work...this is my favorite WEEK of the year, the actual game is jsut the icing on the cake for a rivalry, its the build up and the aftermath that makes it a great rivalry.

Very well said. IMO, this is our best rivalry. There are "gamewatch" parties all over, at homes where lots of folks don't even care about football at any other time. Sure, there are bigger "games," but no other rivalry comes close...

Im with TC, good riddance. Maybe every 20 years we do a home and home or something but the rivalry does nothing for us and its time to move on.

The main reason why I want to see the clowns off the schedule is because it will be severely financially damaging to them. Any clown who wont admit that is the typical clown. Not playing Iowa OR nebraska woud put a HUGE dent in their budget. And anytime they suffer financially I am Happy...That is All.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of this Iowa v. ISU rivalry. I hope that when the B10 and B12 go to 9 game conference schedules that this rivalry dies. I would rather see the 2 cupcakes like we have this year and Arizona than 2 cupcakes and ISU, and booking ISU and another good opponent with a 9 game conf. schedule would be ridiculous by any AD(though Barta may come through).

I'm tired of hearing about this game, and people slamming each other. It's just stupid. (If you disagree oh well). It's just 2 football teams playing each other in September OOC. I just say good ridance when it dies.

totally agree
