Herby can I join the Gabe Olesani fan club?

didn't realize Gabe was unathletic and slow, nor did I realize Woodbury wa slow and unathletic.
7'1 Woodbury vs 7'0 Zeller
6'10 Gabe vs 6'9 Watford
6'8 White vs 6'7 Sheehey
6'7 Marble vs 6'5 Oladipo
6'1 Clemmons/ 6'1 Gesell vs 6'0 Hull/Ferrell
looks pretty close matchup to me.
I don't see a 3 guard lineup that will run circles around Iowa
and if teams want to go small
we have Clemons PG
Gesell SG
Marble WG
White PF
Olaseni C
with McCabe, Oglesby, Ingram, May, Basabe and Woodbury, thats 10 players that all have starting experience.
sorry but starting experience trumps backup players anytime.
this is a McCaffery coached team that keeps players, and not a Lick team that replaced 1-2 starters every year

Olaseni, Oglesby and Ingram do not have starting experience.

Gesell, Marble, White, Woodbury, Clemmons, May, McCabe and Basabe do. That is 8 players, not 10.

people can downplay the abilities of these players all you want,
me personnally I trust Fran to develope his players something that Lick and Alford had a problem doing

the only exceptions are Ingram and Olaseni

I had already made the correction and Oglesby got a start last season

No one is down playing their ability, but you seem to think that Iowa an unranked team for the better part of the past 6 years is somehow has a great chance at beating a team that has been ranked multiple times over that span and even # 1 for the most part of the past 2 months.

We are all glad that Iowa has the players they do, but not many agree with you that they match up as well with Indiana or Michigan as you believe.

If Iowa gets dominated, are you going to come on here and eat crow for it or are you just going to down play it by saying that you never said they would win?

Nobody is downplaying players. Fran has eyes, he knows his players weaknesses.

Olesani is athletic, but he can't guard the other teams quicker players, he is a post player/defender. He should be around the basket blocking shots/altering shots just as Woody should be also. You put Olesani in the game with Woody, other coaches simply counter by putting in a spot up 4 who then brings Olesani out to the perimeter with him.

Knowing players weaknesses doesn't mean you don't believe in them. Facing reality and knowing what players do well and don't do well helps you put them in the most effective position to succeed. White at the 3 is not nearly as effective as White at the 4. Why do you insist on trying to move one of our best player out of his most effective position? It makes zero sense. Do you think we should put Marble back at the PG, when he has proven to be a much more effective 3 or wing player?

White doesn't match up well on sheehey. The best match up would be may or marble there. White is the best match up for watford followed by a healthy basabe. Oladipo would be best guarded by marble or may or ogelsby (he could also guard sheehey).

Herby you focus so much on height when looking at match ups. You should be looking at skill set. But since you don't understand skill set that won't work. If height mattered more that skill set then how did charles barkley play the 4 spot. Or spud webb even play. You need to look at what the players do well and what they don't do well so you can find the best match ups. The latter may be more important. Fran understands this and will put players in the best place to succeed. Hence white only playing the 4 spot lately. And keeping marble on the wing instead of playing pg. Olaseni could play the 4 against some teams (maybe a msu). But against a team like michigan or indiana he would struggle same with white at the 3.

If two players are equal height, it means that they can match up perfectly. A Carlos Boozer can guard Lebron James because they're both 6'8". Kevin Love should guard Kevin Durant because they're both 6'10", and also, they're both named Kevin. Dwayne Wade CAN NOT check Kobe Bryant, because he's 3" shorter.

I disagree with your logic, matching up with Lebron James isn't based on size considering most NBA experts have said that Lebron James can "match up" with any player at all 5 spots regardless of size. He understands the type of game each position has to play, no other player can do that in the past or present but Lebron.

Kevin Love and Kevin Durant are two completely different type players, Durant is more athletic but Love is more of a power player.

You serious David?

Yes, I'm serious and don't me Shirley.

Oh wait, you didn't. Damn it!

He meant that ghost was obviously mocking herby who thinks everything is about height and weight. To herby if 2 players are the same height then they match up well. He doesn't understand the skill sets of the players that make them capable of playing against others or weak against someone. Also playing well against coppin st will automatically equal success against a team like indiana or michigan.

Indiana and Michigan wouldn't match up well against Coppin St.

Coppin St. will chew them up and spit them out.

How many of you are turning in your fan club membership cards after Gabes performance against Indiana?

I am still a fan, just not as big as herby was. It sucked that he was wide open under the basket and he did not slam it home.

I was not as concerned by his offensive deficiencies. His real problems where at the defensive end.

We do not have herby around to annoy anymore. Most of the actual knowledgable fans know Olaseni is still a major work in progress. It is to bad he was pressed into a role last year as he needed a redshirt season.

My problem with Herby is he had me hating Iowa or its players. It was a magical force of trolling that I just couldn't overcome. My life is much at ease now that he is gone.

No doubt, he had me dreading every point and rebound he got knowing herby would be shoving it in our nose.
