Herby can I join the Gabe Olesani fan club?

I hope Devyn can handle Oladipo, who seems to score easily and quickly in the games I have seen. Devyn is playing better D shutting out one team's leading scorer. I think Mike G and Clemmons can play with Hulls and Yogi. We are starting to develop a strong presence at Center with Mel, Gabe and Woody. If Zach's footwork is almost perfect he can keep a tired Zeller away from the basket. A very big if.......

I will go out on the limb again and predict that IF Josh hits 7 threes, we will win handily......

I thought it was classy of Evan Turner to tell Eric May after one of his freshman games that he would be very good in the league. It was a good thing. Eric is very important out there leading with his experience. It was really good to see him get that spark back witnessed by the Dunk and the grin on his face.....

Beware. Indiana, I know you are worried about playing the Hawks at Carver......

:)

differrent people say different height's, the las Height stated is 6'11,
even Meyer is listed at 6'112 by the Atlantic Celtics AAU website, then there are sites that list him at 6'9
no offense taken because there are to manyopinions out there as to how tall players out,
but there is no doubt about his leaping ability
Zeller had his way with Iowa because of his height, having a 4" diference on McCabe and Basabe, and as Nicholson pointed out Olaseni did pretty good against Zeller when Iowa won,
During the NBPA Top 100 Woodbury did pretty good against Nerlom Noel to be awarded the MVP Award and most expect him to be a 1 N done player,

When it comes to height and weight of a player on the hawkeye teams I would probably go with what they list them at not a recruitment site (which don't actually meassure but go with what people tell them). We won't know exactly how big jok is until iowa gets him on campus and lists him.

Zeller isn't what scares me about Indiana. I am worried about their back court, since Iowa has had trouble with talented guards. IU is quicker than us at the 1,2, and 3.

Not the two. Gessel is quicker and more athletic than Hulls and I don't think will have much trouble staying in front of him.

Ferrells probably the quickest guy in the conference but he is also tiny. In the games Ive seen im not supper impressed with Ferrel, hes no Phill Pressey lets put it that way. Clemmons is a pretty good on ball defender and is bigger and more physical. We'll see how that one turns out.

Marbles going to have the most trouble with Olidiop IMO.

Hey look, gabe is improving. All you non-believers can suck it.

That's funny I don't remember anyone saying Gabe is not improving. My point is that we haven't exactly been playing Big Ten caliber teams of late while Gabe has showed some strides. I hope he can continue it on through the Big Ten. We really need him and Woodbury to be successful for Iowa to do well and to have a shot at the NCAA tourney. I don't think Zeller is invincible but he is pretty good and will be a real test of our interior defense, which is something that never was even tested in our last two games. As Jack pointed out we did pretty good last year guarding him. I hope we do well again this time. I did say I hope this will be their official coming out party. Of course maybe your remarks were directed at me.

The more successful Gabe is, the more Woody can be a freshman, the more effective our interior is. As much as he's played of late, we'll probably see him play some minutes vs IN. If he can play any effective minutes at all vs IN, our NCAA chances suddenly get better.

I agree with this line of thinking. Would love for Gabe to bust loose and become a big ten force. For those who remember Brad Lohaus he didn't come around until later in his junior year. Brad could shoot the three ball but I actually think Gabe is a better all around athlete especially as a sophomore. Bulk up a little more and a little more experience and who knows where his sealing is at.

Hulls is not quicker than Gesell. Yogi is quicker than most but Clemmons is quick and more physical. Interested to see if Clemmons will guard Hulls since Hulls is the major IU 3pt threat.

Clemmons has to guard Ferrell, but Iowa should let Yogi beat them rather then allow him to be a facilitator...when he beats Clemmons, he will lets not get crazy, Iowa cannot help off of Zeller or Watford. If Iowa loses this game, I would rather see Ferrell and Watford be the guys that do it, not Zeller/Hulls/Oladipo.

The question is, how will Iowa defend Hulls, I have no issues with Gesell guarding him, but IU does all kinds of things to keep him on the move and get him shots.

Why didn't you mention the 4 and 5 as well just to be thorough?

This is what I was thinking too. Yogi gets by his guy allot but he is not really an effective scorer, he is always looking to pass, make him go all the way to the hoop. I don't think he can beat you all game doing that.

He will get by Anthony for sure but I don't think its going to be all that often. Clemmons is as equipped to guard him as anyone in the conference other than Craft IMO. (Thats a matchup Im looking forward to seeing too)

Im not worried about Hulls. The team is playing pretty good D overall and Mike knows how to get through screens. Hulls is short and slow although he is crafty.

Olidipo and Zeller are the matchups that present the most concern.

You don't have to think that Gabe will be all Big Ten at any point in his career to still be a fan of his. It isn't an either or proposition.

Well said! Jack, we're giving away our secrets to our enemy lol?

Herby makes it seem like it is an either or proposition. If you say that because he is young in basketball experience then he most likely won't be much of a contributor until his jr or sr yr you think he sucks and you have no faith in the coaches. He is developing better and quicker than I personally thought he would. But all I see is a guy that will be a solid bench contributor but probably won't be in the main rotation until next yr or the following yr. To herby that means I hate the kid and think he is a failure.

Herby is mean.

not mean just a avid defender of a kid, that others try to diss by saying he won't be a contributor til his SR year and will be mainly a bench warmer.
freshman stats.
1.4 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 0.2 apg, 0.5 TOPG, 0.4 bpg 5.0 mpg in 18 games for a total of 90 minutes
sophamore stats
3.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 0.2 apg, 0.3 topg, 1.5 bpg, 0.4 spg 9.8 mpg thru 12 games for a total 118 minutes
he also just tied Basabe with 18 blocks on the season,
this is a kid that is going to play alot in BT play, and he will not get relegated to the bench

Just another reason that Herby and I disagree on things.

Nobody "diss" on Olesani. You keep putting everybody in that category just because they do not have as high of an opinion of him as you do.
