Hearing that Beathard did NOT break the circle of trust

related to last week's interview with The Tennessean. When I wrote the write up last week, I explained the protocols for media requests and left the door open for that possibility. Although I doubted protocols were followed, give The Des Moines REgistered requested to speak with CJB and were denied, according to them.

Beathard went through Iowa Sports Information for the interview and didn't go lone wolf on that one..I discussed the protocols and possibilities in my item last week:

Iowa’s protocols for the media that covers it’s teams is for media requests for players to move through the Sports Information Department, and then they grant or deny those requests. If granted, they will facilitate an interview. I suspect they try to do the same with out of town requests, arranging phone interview times with the out of state media entity and the student athlete, making it work with class time and such. Iowa’s classes are not in session, so that was not a hurdle in place here. One thing that is NOT supposed to happen is for media members to speak to contract players directly, bypassing Sports Information.
Four Iowa players met with the media on Monday, in addition to Kirk Ferentz. CJ Beathard was not one of those players. I don’t know if the Iowa media was offered the chance to request players for the interview session on Monday and the four who were there were the only four requested, but I doubt it.
So I won’t outright rule out that CJ spoke to the Tennessee paper of CJ’s own volition, but I wouldn’t just assume that, either. Perhaps that paper went through Iowa’s channels and they facilitated the interview. Perhaps they didn’t, as the link above included this line: ‘The university did not grant The Des Moines Register’s requests to interview Beathard leading up to the TaxSlayer Bowl.’

This is a 'good' thing IMO as it gives me more hope that there is a bridge for CJB to walk back across.

Also, with Davis saying today that both QB's will play in 1Q and 2Q, and that the thing is wide opened based on Nebraska performance....it also gives me some hope that CJB could earn this thing...because it pretty much took em 13 games to realize they don't have a #1 yet? As a friend said, what does it tell you if your clear #1 for the entire season isn't your clear #1 for the bowl game.

Yeah, that doesn't bode well for JR IMO unless CJB just underperforms in practices and the game.

The DSM register was denied but when Beathard went back through the same channel and requested it for the Tennessean they said okay?

I think it means that GD wanted CJ to play all along. Maybe Cap-a-tan kirk is kinda-sorta admitting he was wrong. I would bet CJ has been lighting it up in Bowl prep....

My circle of trust angle is I wondered if they gave the interview to the Tennesean without going through proper protocols, since The REgister said they requested to speak with him but were denied.

I don't think CJ said anything crazy in that item...but the whole this is the first time the competition has been open this year was certainly an eye raiser...that can be worked with..giving an unsanctioned interview, probably not...this was sanctioned.

Which begs the question why didn't they let CJB talk with The Register

How did he "not break the circle of trust" given the article in the Tennessean?

Jeebus, ask a logical question and "jercure" thumbs it down. (if that name doesn't scream troll, what does?) Jon has since gone back and edited his post making my question moot.

After listening to JDM's latest podcast, he indicated that the interview with the Tennesseean was not through the SIDs office. Apparently it was, afterall.

If that premise was proven to be true (that he had an illicit interview) it was the equivalent of wearing a suicide vest into the locker room.

I was also confused by your question since Jon explained it in his post. You skimmed a post and missed some info, it happens.

I said I highly doubted it was since the DMR requested to speak with CJB as well, and was denied.

And seriously, who cares if posts get thumbed down or thumbed up? I can guarantee you now, those who enjoy doing that sort of thing are going to mark yours for downs...because you care about it

You know, this whole thing has a life of its own and its getting embarrassing. At this point I'm looking forward towards what Tyler Wiegers, Drew Cook or what Ryan Boyle can do. Sick of this Rudock and Beathard drama day time soap opera television program. This is what the Iowa football program has come to. Unbelievable.

Ole captain Kirk just isn't too fond of the DSM media is what I take away from this... And even that's been an on and off again love affair. Now if Kirk has any issue with what he said during it that'd be different from this anyway. I'm sure he didn't like it but would Kirk hold that against him to sit him only for that reason?? I wouldn't have put it past him however.... DJK played a ton at Iowa and Ferentz was never too happy with how he conducted himself. If he can help win and say he does just that I think he will win the job. I just think he's been too inconsistent in practice all year. Be it in the film room and on the practice field to pry it away from JR.

To overtake a qb that's not playing poorly such as JR it needs to be done during times like this. The bowl prep, spring ball or fall camp. Because once the season is going the practice reps are so few with the amount of time that they get it's just that much harder. JR isn't playing bad like Jake Christensen was for crying out loud. So the only logical thing to me is CJ just hasn't been able to be accurate consistently in practice. That's assuming he has the playbook down and is making the right decisions..

Now that I think of it, didn't KF make some sort of announcement earlier in the season on a national or other regions radio show and people were wondering why? This would at least be a slight pattern showing that perhaps there really is a rift between Ft. Kinnick and the Iowa/DSM media.

Kirk also makes freshmen off limits to media, but there are interviews on HS.com.

And there is no question of Kirk's disdain for media...as he speaks of it to players at times and they have told me after their Iowa playing days are over...but that's pretty much everywhere, not a Kirk thing

KF been saying CJ would be seeing playing time for 6 weeks, seriously what a complete joke!! The handling of this entire situation is completely laughable.

I'm with you on these points that, if this actually plays out, there is hope that CJ wins the job for 2015. Again, if this plays out as suggested: there are many possible reasons it's played out like this, the most likely is that kfootball was the last person to relent on giving CJ a clear (and public) chance. The media hasn't "been on kfootball's side since the end of the season, ticket sales to the bowl game are not going well. Maybe kfootball is making a "business" decision. After all, the odds are better of having both CJ and JR on the team in 2015 if CJ starts. JR isn't likely to leave or quit because of his studies. But even if he does, you're in no worse position (Weigers as back up in 2015) than if CJ leaves.

If CJ plays and yes it is a big IF, than I'm hoping CJ lights it up and plays out of his mind on Jan 2nd and makes KF look like a complete A$$.
