Hayden welcomed Dwight back - Kirk chased off Willies

You need to stop drinking and sleep it off. You think the wise thing to do would have been burning Willies RS in 2013? He showed that he wasn't ready to play 2 years in, let along his TR FR year.....Heck, I'd bet you'd claim that Willies was leaving this year if KF burned his RS last year.

I think the point is that why redshirt the player with the higher ceiling if you aren't going to play them when they are out performing the lower ceiling player. I could understand it if it's a senior vs a RS Fresh or a RS soph, but guys who were recruited in the same class is ridiculous.

Look at the OOC games this year, the offense looked like a cesspool of garbage with jake but it sparked to life when CJ went in, then he would be pulled and the offense would look like a cesspool again. I feel confident that our Offense would have averaged 10+ points more per game with CJ. The question is how the defense would have held up.

Kirk: "Ok, but first you've gotta do the truffle shuffle.."
Willies: "Common...."
Kirk: "Do it."
Willies: "Common...."
Kirk: "DO IT!!!"
Willies: "Arggh... Forget it!"

I would say unless and until there is a SHRED of evidence of Dwight quitting the team at ANY point, this whole thread spells "F-A-I-L. "

And as mentioned by another astute poster, comparing Willies to Dwight is a joke. Willies ran wrong routes several times this season. He was also hurt/not dressed for at least one game.

We have now officially passed "ridiculous" and attained "ludicrous" on these boards.

Both of those Iowans very talented skill players.

Hayden could humble his ego to beg Dwight to stay.

Kirk couldn't do that with Willies.

A stark illustration between the master and the apprentice.

I, too, don't recall Tim Dwight leaving the team. But assuming he did, we do not know the exact discussions that took place between coach and player regarding a return to the team. There's plenty to criticize KF for, but without knowing specifics I'm not sure this is one of them.

Who knows what the stipulations were that the coaches put out there for Willies to follow to get back. I doubt those will ever see the light of day. I have a feeling they weren't that easy because Kirk couldn't have been to happy with Willies because of what CJ said he said... Adding that on top of him leaving as he did. I'm sure he was asked point blank if he was upset with playing time and if that was why he did what he did. If he admitted to that then I'm sure Kirk laid out some tough things for him to live up to and Willies evidently wasn't willing to take on that challenge. I don't lay that all on Ferentz every coach out there wouldn't take too fondly to that and rightfully so. Some may not have given him a chance at all...

I just don't see how playing time could have had much to do with it. He wanted to come back to the same situation so obviously he didn't think the situation was bad.

1. I really liked the potential of willies but the comparison of actual productivity in high school and college between these two is not even on the same planet.

2. Nobody really knows what happened with willies and I hadn't even heard of the TD scenario.

in summary, comparing these two situations as a failure for kf.... Fail.

There is a lot to talk about and complain about with the program right now. I doubt very many fans are pleased with where we are at as a football team. But this whole Willes deal that some people can't let go just blows my mind. I'm not one to defend KF, but I don't know, nor should I know any of the details of everything that happened with him. It sounds like they talked, tried to work it out, couldn't and now he's gone. It is what is. Let it go.

As far as TD is concerned, I don't remember him ever quitting. I saw him party a few times, and could understand if he was kicked off the team at some point, but I don't remember anything like that. The mid to late 90s during college were a little blurry for me though ;-)

The only possible reason Dwight would have ever quit the team was to go pro. Perhaps he thought about that and decided to finish school instead. I never heard of it either way, so I highly doubt it's true.

So far as Willies goes...talented kid. But if he's willing to quit the team in the middle of his redshirt freshman year over playing time, that tells me he was probably a bad fit to begin with.

We have no idea why he didn't play as much as it seemed he should - maybe he didn't practice hard. Maybe he couldn't block. Maybe he didn't know the plays. Maybe Kirk didn't want another problem child like DJK...we'll probably never know.
