Now that’s a real legend. Comparing KF to him is a joke. Hayden’s life goes far beyond just being Iowa’s coach.
An award goes to Hayden yet we have to get some dig in at Kirk? C'mon man.
I think he meant that we don't need to turn EVERY SINGLE THREAD into the same argument. I tend to agree. There are some who just look at the win/loss records or rankings and try to compare the two coaches based on that. My point is that Hayden made huge impacts on the game itself and broke down some racial barriers that go far beyond just comparing win loss records.
I like Kirk for the good things he has accopmlpished at Iowa. Anyone who tries to say he is a failure here is crazy. He at times has had great success. I have enjoyed those seasons. My dig wasn’t at Kirk but at those who try to equate the two coaches. If after reading the article, a person tries to equate the two coaches it would be clear that the person is either lacking in good judgement or is just an extremely augumentive type personality.
I would be fine with Kirk staying here as head coach as long as he wants if he would make some serious philosophical changes to his offense. It is so boring and unimaginative. I want to enjoy the games and take pride when in public wearing my Hawkeye gear out in public. I don’t think that’s asking to much.
Unless he lives in a cave he has to know everyone’s frustration with the way the offense is ran. So why doesn’t he make significant changes. Surely he has to recognize that when his QB calls an audible everyone in the stadium knows it’s a running play and all our QB is doing is calling blocking assignments or indicating where the running back is suppose to run to. So why would an intelligent coach always do something that gives the opponent’s defense such an advantage? It’s either because the coach is stubborn, arrogant and egotistical, lazy, or making a statement that I am the coach and I am going to do it m way and “eff” what the fans want. It’s my team and I will do as I want to whether it works or doesn’t work. Look no one likes that attitude from anyone. That’s the part about him that I don’t like. That and the offense generally puts you to sleep on Saturdays. Some smart ass might make the comment “then don’t watch the games”. Why should any fan have to give up cheering for their favorite team just because they don’t like the coaching. I am a Hawkeye fan not Kirk worshipper. Besides I was a Hawkeye fan before Kirk even knew who they were.

All good points, but I would say that comparing Kirk to Hayden isn't in the realm of being a joke. How much money did Hayden give to a children's hospital or any other charitable institution? In that area, I'd wager Kirk goes far beyond what Hayden did. I realize that's an off the field accomplishment but nevertheless it reflects well on Kirk as a coach.
