Hayden Fry impact on Iowa

"Exposure" and "relevance" aren't a function of "who invented or created". Although, by the time I left Iowa City, I was pretty sure Hayden DID farm and drive a tractor. He had that effect and impact, for sure.

And to be fair, with internet, "ANF" would have been the "Black Lives Matter" of the 1980s...

Kirk helped with the funding of the childrens hospital but in regards to the wave all he did was have the team begin partaking in it weeks into it after having not done it. They were pretty much guilt tripped into doing it when other schools were is kinda how I saw it. But to say Kirk had anything to do with the wave isn't true he's just partaking in it now like everyone else.

Fair assessment to a point, but the feature with Kirk and Mary brought a ton of visibility. You simply can't discount that. I also doubt ESPN (or whoever) would have had him on stage with Jackson and Kaden (sp?) without SOME "background" involvement.

And given what they went through with the grandchild, he may not have wanted to "force" the team to do something that is partly affected by his personal connection to it.

But he has a HELL of a lot to do with the visibility and exposure and "relevance" stated by the poster.

But I get a sense that you have a deeper "feeling", i.e., it would bother hell out of you if Kirk DID have ANYthing--at all--to do with The Wave.

And to be fair, growing up in the 70's before cable and internet we Iowans usually only had 3,6 or 10. NDame took up one automatically so you watched Iowa Football on the other because to be honest outside the typical AP 25 back then we didn't know who these other teams were because of no exposure outside this state. Yes the blue bloods we're still there but hell if I knew San Diego state, UCF, TCU and etcetera.

Why do you feel that you have to make up stuff to make Kirk look better? I'm pretty sure he's done enough charitable work that he doesn't need some message board poster creating false narratives for him.

By saying that Kirk had nothing to do with the wave doesn't discount the visability factor to the story. My take on it is this. With or without KF and what happened with his granddaughter it's still the huge story it is. I think since we didn't know about what happened for so long with KFs grandbaby that he didn't even really want that out there publicly it just some how did one way or another. KF wasn't trying to enhance the wave or Iowa and his program with his own personal family story. I refuse to believe that for a second.
So having said that if your going to reward/acknowledge Iowa for the wave at an awards show type of environment who would you have come up on stage? The AD that nobody knows outside IC? Heck no of course it'd be KF the face of the program regardless of if he ever waved once up at the kids or not or what his involvement is. Jackson was of course their as a finalist for the DB award so why not have him come up too.
