Hawks Tame the London Lions...Again

I think one big thing this team has going for it, will be all the options they have. One night Marble might score 20+, the next White, the next Gesell, the next Jok, the next Uthoff. Combine that with a deep bench where some games you get 10-15 from a Ogelsby, McCabe, Basabe, or Olaseni. This team has the potential of winning games against good team when Marble has an off night. Iowa had a hard time winning if Marble didn't play well last year.

My maternal grandfather was a wise, practical man, who farmed a piece of dirt in Eastern Iowa for nearly 70 years. He always gave me little words of wisdom while I was growing up. One of his favorites seems applicable today. He said "Son, don't base your expectations on exhibition games against British scrubs."

Wise, wise man...

People have had expectations of this team for awhile now......exhibition games or not.

Funny, but I think most are basing it on the fact that they improved a lot last year, they are still young and getting better, and the 2 additions are doing as well as anyone could have hoped for. Obviously Jok isn't going to average 20/game in the BoneG his first year, but if he is able to drop 10-15 it gives us a dimension we didn't have last year and needed greatly.

My next question about Joks game besides his defense for me is how athletic is he? Is his knee 100% then? We know he's a shooter but how is he at putting it on the floor and scoring at the rim? If he's able to do that he'll be the best of both worlds of what Marble and Oglesby bring. Marble isn't as consistent of a shooter and Oblesby will pull up for an 18 footer before going to the rim for the most part.

people talk about Jok's defense..he's on a team who totally transformed their defensive attitude in one season, and he'll see everyone else going all in on D....he'll be fine.

We need to see what Peter can do against D1 talent, though. He has a bit to go on that end.
But you are right about projected stats, he doesn't have to contribute a ton his first year. He needs to be an X factor in hitting threes and having those games were he does go for double-digits when Marble or White aren't scoring.

We won't really get a good answer on Jok's athleticism until games start. His highlight reels from high school are encouraging in that he is smooth. If he adds an element of explosion to his game he could be quite good. But let's see him against some better competition first.

From what I have seen of him, he is one of those sneaky athletic people. He moves so smoothly that you don't even notice he is at the rim until the ball is already through the hoop.

I was going to post asking how good the London boys are and what, if anything, to make of these two wins. But I think OLWPAORWWM nailed it, so I won't.

They get paid to play basketball. Obviously London ain't the NBA, but they are grown a$$ men that make their living this way.

In reference to that "top 10 highlight video". Anyone notice how little JO gets off the ground? It's hard to judge b/c it zooms in but it almost looks like he doesn't get his toes off the deck more then an inch. That will be blocked all year if that's all the higher he jumps on his shot. jmo.
