Hawks Still in Palm & Lunardi Brackets

Hawks are #10 with Palm and #9 in Lunardi brackets after the Minny and NW losses. Palm had a couple paragraphs on Iowa, and basically said that they still are in the tournament (because of numerous quality wins) if they start playing like a tournament team.

I'm guessing 4 and 2 the rest of the way will get them in the tournament or the First Four. But they MUST win 4 of the next 6.

Come on Hawks. Get your heads up, play hard with 100% effort, and we'll see where the chips fall. It starts with Rutgers on Thursday. That game is a MUST WIN.

They are in until they **** a couple more games away down the stretch. I want to be wrong, but it's hard to believe in this coaching staff and team right now.

The bubble is incredibly soft especially with the added first 4 spots. Look at the resumes of some of the bubble teams. Terrible. Iowa is still in easy IMO.

Palm has us 19-12 at the end of the regular season, #10 seed against #7 seed Wichita State....If that holds up, winner plays Kansas....long ways away for any of that talk...

Witchita State will beat UNI is their rematch and will be a 5 or 6 seed when it is done. Especially if they win the conference tourney.

I believe that they can get a lot more wins to improve their seed. A good run in the big 10 tournament will help a lot too.

I looked at the brackets before the debacle yesterday and had this thought that it would actually benefit us if we could get out of the 8 seed with a second rounder against Duke in Charlotte and get to the 10 slot with a first round against W.S. in the first round and the second rounder against Kansas in Omaha. A slightly tougher first round game, but I'd trade playing Duke in Charlotte for Kansas in Omaha anytime, every time. It's all speculation right now anyway, but that was my thought process yesterday pre game. If they don't slip up again, ironically maybe there's a silver lining to the past week. All that said, one more pi** up and I don't think we'll have to worry about seedings or anything else.

Agreed. I don't think 3-3, with a resulting 9-9 conference record will get them in The Dance, unless they won at least 2 in the BTT. 4-2, 10-8 guarantees a bid.

I think they will destroy Northwestern in Iowa City BTW.

I am just not certain this team has enough fortitude to win 4 of 6. Not even certain they win 3 of 6 now.

What we know now is there are going to be few if any whistles going our way so living on the foul line for white is not going to happen and every team is going to mug us from here on out. We do not handle physical/hacking play at all.

If we are any sort of tournament team, we have to assume Rutgers and northwestern are "automatic "wins. That means we have to go 2-2 against the rest of the teams that are about the same skill wise as us. If you play 4 teams that are equal to you, odds are we should go 2-2. Breaking it down that way makes 4-2 seem more doable.

Not sure how they can be anything but last 4 OUT? Bad basketball right now.
My strong gut feel is they aint gonna make it

It's nice to see we are still in the conversation for the NCAA. Just beat Rutgers first....go from there.

Indiana will be a very tough game to win. The rest are all very winnable IF we play above average, are even or positive in turnovers, and for the love of all that is Holy...shoot above 43% from fg and above 65% from the line as a team. Go below these stats, can't see 4 wins.

Go Hawks

HW, this is what concerns me about Iowa....they are starting to back peddle against bad teams....and they're starting to hear footsteps.....I'm glad they're still in the hunt, but if they don't turn it around fast, they will finish 18-13 and probably get bounced in the 1st round of the BTT....as far as I'm concerned there is a real sense of urgency here and I'm not sure they understand the consequences.....this is not a way for our Seniors to go out...by playing crappy ball....they all know what they need to do but they can't seem to get it done...Rutgers is a God send, but after that it's a crap shoot....

Here's the kicker ... Fran will continue is inane rotations. While he's started to sprinkle them in a bit more than platooning, they eventually all end up on the floor together for a period of time. Add to that, Oglesclank went all blind squirrel so now Caff thinks it's even more of a viable lineup.

He's still oblivious to how His Ferentzian-style personnel mismanagement results in an impotent offense, quickly loses leads or deepens deficits, contributes to White's moping and Woody's ineptitude by squelching any real or hoped for momentum and game flow, not to mention, sucks the entire life out of the arena.

McCaffery's gonna lose at least 3 of the remaining games by this, alone.

Fran is under the assumption that he will leave it up to the 5 players on the court, and that's an extremely dangerous combo when you have these types of "personnel lineups" on the court like he did @ NW (and of course other games)....Jeezuz, what the hell is the problem w/having the 5 players on the court that gave you lead, or came back and took the lead.....Fran is terrible when it comes to mis-matches and management of quality possessions....mind boggling....

They have an RPI of 55 right now and that will go down most likely with their remaining schedule. To say Iowa is on thin ice the rest of the way regarding an NCAA tournament bid is an understatement. Thats the position they have put themselves in the past week.
