Iowa snapped two losing streaks on Saturday in their 70-50 win at Northwestern; a three-gamer to start Big Ten play this year and five straight losses to Northwestern.

Iowa needs to score, and they did as much today.

I would really like to figure out a way to have the following lineup in as much as possible:

Marble
Gassell
White
McCabe
Bassabe

It's tough on matchups on the defensive end of the floot, but it also puts 5 people on the floot you actually have to guard.

Iowa's defense has kept them in games against the tougher opponents at home. Iowa isn't going to outscore opponents with that lineup, sorry. I respectfully disagree with this lineup.

One thing McCormick said today, and I agree with, is that Iowa's defense is often tied closely to their ability to get dunks, etc. When they get that going offensively, it's near impossible to get good looks against the defense.

I actually disagree with that because if that is the case, how was it they looked so poorly against IU/MSU on offense, but didn't get blown out?

Iowa has corrected some of the issues defensively, not all of them. They weren't getting dunks against IU/MSU so...

I think Mel is a better player 20-25 minutes than he would be 25+. He comes in and is all energy and goes at it...it also depends on what kind of start he has on his shift...if he gets going, he stays in it...when you see him flash that smile, it's on.

I think Woodbury needs to keep getting minutes, needs to keep getting those mental and physical reps. Then the game, flow and who is doing what takes over from the coaches decisions.

I dont remember beating a team that badly on the road in forever - def not in conference play.

This team does have potential -its been frustrating. A tiny bit more offensive production and we are sitting at 3-1 now.

It definitely goes back to the Alford era, can't think of any game off the top of my head, but I'm sure we had one then. It was nice to be somewhat relaxed in the last few minutes of a road game (that we were winning).

I couldn't remember the last time Iowa won in Evanston, so I looked it up and it was March 4, 2008, 67-62. Lick's first year. We made a bunch of 3's in that game and basically played only 6 guys.

Speaking of Alford, he only won at Northwestern once as well January 8th, 2003 (68-63). You have to go clear back to the 97-98 season to find the last time Iowa won this easily at Northwestern (75-55 that season). Playing at Northwestern has been a struggle for Iowa over the years.

The Hawks started conference with Indy, UM, and MSU. Those teams are just better. Just awesome only one was a complete no contest.

This was the first game that really mattered beyond SOS helping RPI.

I'm not all that sure I believe that when it comes to Michigan State. I really didn't come away all that impressed with them.

Me neither, I am still butthurt over that loss. The only loss of the season that makes me mad every time I think of it because of the officiating and how they gave that game away (more the latter).
