Hawks Open as 4.5 point favorite over Clones

3-0 after two and a half quarters against Northern Illinois. I guess it comes down to who do you think is better NIU or ISU. I would put my money on ISU in a match up against Notthern Illinois. I don’t think the Northern Illinois team was as good as it has been in the past. Either that or our defense is the new monsters of the midway. That would be ok with me.

I expect them to stack the box against us on defense. Anyone who doesn’t is a damn fool. We have always had trouble moving the ball against a stacked box.

Not sure why ISU fans think this should be a pick'em. Iowa is the favorite and they should be the favorite.

Probably because Vegas thinks ISU would win on a neutral field.
I think were in for a pretty good game this Saturday.

Not so fast. They will give us 3 for home field. The 4.5 suggests they think we would still win on a neutral field.

I think Kinnick is normally given 4 points for th Hawks.

Nuetral field would be a pick ‘em. To me, even 1.5 is a pick ‘em

I thought the spread would be closer to 14 points from Sagarin. When there is this big of a difference I think it means Vegas thinks we have a matchup issue somewhere.

Montgomery is a great back...and Kempt can throw it...and they have receivers who can play. That tells you this is going to be an interesting game. Getting Lattimore and Reiff back is important, but we better get better linebacker play or we are going to give up points. There is no doubt they are going to want to get Montgomery the ball in space in their passing game in match up with our LB.

It's a good match up. I just think our OL and especially our DL are going to be better. I'm anxious to see Wirfs and Jackson with the group of interior players that played well yesterday. If those guys made strides over the spring, summer, and fall camp...I'm looking forward to them pushing Iowa State around...then our play action game will give them fits.

I agree with what you say about Montgomery and Kempt and their receivers. But the best back in the world gets nowhere without a line. The best QB in the world throws INTs or gets sacked without a line. The receivers never see the ball without a line. ISU had an average O-line last year and lost 4 to graduation. Our D-line lost 1 regular to graduation. That adds up to a huge advantage for Iowa.

I predict Iowa will jump on the Clowns from the get go. Playing 5 mins. of a game does not get rid of those first game jitters. Add to it the Clowns are on the road at a hostile environment. I see our D-line to continue to dominate up front and put pressure on the qb. This will result in sacks, fumbles, and int’s for ISU. Our offense will be opportunist given turnovers and field position. I believe we will be up at least 21-24 pts. before ISU comes close to sniffing the end zone. Iowa 36 ISU 17
