Hawks Open as 4.5 point favorite over Clones

Not sure they have the horses up front to take this to the wire.

Their pass rush was nonexistent last year, so any advantage they have on our receivers is likely negated by Stanley having forever to throw.

Iowa DL >>> ISU OL. This will set the pace of the game. Kempt will likely be running for his life, and Montgomery will need lots of help up front to make as much of an impact as he did last year.

I see this as being a more competitive version of the opener. Iowa starts slow, maybe even goes into the half down, but once the DL starts teeing off on Kempt he starts to make mistakes, giving us great field position and the OL wears them down, with Iowa cruising late to a comfy 34-20, 28-13 type win.

Honestly this is the first time in a long time that I'd pick Iowa to cover. @BVHawk95 pretty much covered my thoughts, plus the fact that Iowa State only got to play five minutes of football leading into the Iowa game which also happens to be at Kinnick. Also I think the Clowns regress form last year and have to scratch for bowl eligibility. I'm looking forward to seeing Kempt laid out by three or four different Hawks.

You realize Stanley had all day to throw yesterday don't you? How did that turn out? They have better dbs than NIU, and our receivers did nothing yesterday.

All day? He was sacked and hurried once each, and there was multiple plays where the timing or throw was interrupted by pressure. Compare that to ISU last year who hurried Stanley exactly once all game and likes to use a 3-man rush most of the time, and add in two good tackles coming back, and yeah, the protection will be even better.

Is their base defense of a 3 or 4 man front this year?

Not sure why ISU fans think this should be a pick'em. Iowa is the favorite and they should be the favorite.

Because ISU fans are overzealous just like they are every year. They will be humbled on Saturday just as Sutten Smith was and find themselves headed into a big loss at Oklahoma. 0-2 will be a great way to start for a team that is destined for greatness! Then they might improve to 1-2 against Akron before falling to 1-5, or maybe 2-4 if they pick up one win they shouldn't.

I’ll take the Hawks by 10. I think it’ll be an advantage having a game under our belts and I think we’ll be better on both sides at the line.

I told my Cyclone friends last year before that game that Iowa looked to be superior on both Offensive and defensive lines. ( they actually agreed) and even if ISU had better skill position players that whoever wins the LOS usually wins. Again they agreed.

Sadly, during the game it was not very clear as to which team had the advantage on the LOS and they clearly had an advantage at WR And Montgomery was every bit as good as Wadley. We were lucky to get out of there with a win.

Do we really have an advantage on the lines?

We absolutely have an advantage on the D-line. Only time will tell with the O-line.

Montgomery is a great back...and Kempt can throw it...and they have receivers who can play. That tells you this is going to be an interesting game. Getting Lattimore and Reiff back is important, but we better get better linebacker play or we are going to give up points. There is no doubt they are going to want to get Montgomery the ball in space in their passing game in match up with our LB.

It's a good match up. I just think our OL and especially our DL are going to be better. I'm anxious to see Wirfs and Jackson with the group of interior players that played well yesterday. If those guys made strides over the spring, summer, and fall camp...I'm looking forward to them pushing Iowa State around...then our play action game will give them fits.
