Watched the ‘58 Hawks, too. Assisted Jerry Mauren at Kennedy later. Spent some time with Wilburn Hollis. Jerry and Bernie Wyatt were both in that backfield. That team was in the top 10. #8 I think.

I might be mixed up what year you are talking about, but I believe The 1958 Iowa team went to the 1959 Rose Bowl and beat Cal. The Football writers of America ranked Iowa #1, so Iowa claims 1958 as a national championship. Although the coaches and AP polls did not have Iowa #1.
