Hawks - got 'em where we want 'em

Ok kids, we've been thinking about this all wrong. We had our little tantrums last night, cried and complained and pointed fingers. Now it's time to realize we are ok. We're just still ****** that things fell apart last season (that was OUR season, for god's sake), and to make up for it, during the course of the spring and summer we rationalized how this could become a top ten team. That's the problem with hanging out on Hawkeye Nation, we're all co-dependents. We'll deal with that later.

Now, take a step back for a minute. Before the season, if I had told you come November this was our situation, would you have taken it? Yes or no.

1. Vandenberg would be the second ranked QB in the conference.

2. Coker would be second in the conference in rushing yards and averaging over 5 yards a carry.

3. McNutt would be the conference's second leading receiver in yards and leading in touchdowns.

4. Iowa would control its own destiny to make the Rose Bowl.

It was a weird, ugly loss yesterday to a bad team, but would you have taken our current situation in August?

Dude, we lost to Iowa State and Minnesota...how do you get past that? Minnesota's been beat twice by Our Lady Sister of the Poor this year.

I just can't conceive the series of events that got us to that loss yesterday.

I like your optimism, and those statistical facts, yes. This team, no. They don't pass the eyeball test. Not seeing roses.

I expect Iowa to play well against Michigan. They will keep it close and get everyone excited again for a few quarters. But, make no mistake, they will lose.

Does Iowa actually control its destiny to the Rose Bowl? If they win-out, a three-way with MSU and Michigan/Nebraska is the likeliest of scenarios. The first rule of a multi-team tie is "The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other". The wording is tripping me up, as it could mean two things:

1. The overall records of the tied teams will be compared to each other
2. The record of games played against tied-teams are compared to each other.

Scenario 1 would mean that Michigan/Nebraska is the division winner, as they have no non-conference losses. Iowa goes to Indy under scenario 2, with a 2-0 record against tied teams.

Realistically, it doesn't matter, as Iowa simply isn't going to be Big Ten champs this year.

Oh no doubt Iowa has some numbers to be proud of but for every one of the positives there is a negative so they now have 3 losses and the latest is to a team that lost twice to lower classifacation teams.
Iowa will likely "play tough" in a couple more games this season but mark it down, if they lose enough (even with a win against Purdue) they will lay down and roll over like a cheap ***** against Nebby.

You are a fool is you try and spin this season into anything positive. We lost to one of the worst big ten teams in the last 30 years. I don't give a **** about the stats, if you told me we would lose to ISU and MN I would NOT take that.

I agree with the OP. hawks will surprise in November! I will make it a point to seek these threads out and "taint" smeo regulars around here!
