Hawks Get Publicity...For Jewel's Hit

Since the play was a punt return/change of possession, a player cannot block below the waist, have to stay high. Add that to the MIami player stumbling at last second, and have unfortunate hit. Targeting it was not and Jewell should not have been tossed IMO.

Sorry, but we have to be glad they erred to the side of caution, here. And Jewell not getting all histrionic about it pretty much confirms that it was a legitimate enough call. Was it "intentional". The block was, the "target" maybe was not.

Still, if it were the reverse, we'd all be screaming for it.

I hear ya. I think an ejection is too severe of a penalty on a play like this one. I don't think it was a targeting play IMO. Penalize 15 yards, ok. Ejection, no.

Football is going to die if changes aren't made. It happened. Move on. Jewell didn't need to do what he did to make that play. It happens at speed.

I do think it's fair to say that he didn't mean to do it, but he didn't mean not to do it either. There is a way that players go in kind of lazy in regards to their helmets and body position. It's an aggressive game and things are going to happen.

From one angle it looks rather accidental, but maybe a bit lazy to prevent it. It happens in real time so it's hard to criticize. The 2nd angle looks more incriminating.

The guy coming in from the right gets tripled teamed by Hawks.
