Five if the six best in state will be wearing black and gold. This is very encouraging for the program and is finally some good news for us fans. Really like this class so far. Nice job hawkeye recruiters.

The hires of the last couple years have really been solid recruiting hires. Now it is time to translate to the field.

Totally agree. Reid, White, Woods, and lil Ferentz have been very good on the recruiting trail. I think (hope?) it will translate to a lot of wins in the next year or three.

Yes, adding some young guys like woods and brain combined with the Vikings/ pro experience is paying off I think. I don't think they have the years of coaching experience as the other coaches we've had but they are helping on the recruiting side. This is good good news guys. Kids ARE coming to IC. We can still get athletes. Now we need to have the system to produce wins.

I think you're correct here, Jumper. However, my question for you since you seem to be the best source for recruiting knowledge, but isn't Reese Morgan the recruiter in the state of Iowa so isn't all this years success with these 5 out of 6 on Reese?

If so, seems like people aren't mentioning him much.

Sorry to play devil's advocate here, but we are a longggg ways away from signing day still. A lot can happen in between now and February. I really wish there was a fall signing period.

Totally agree. As we saw last year, big time recruits get poached. That's just the reality of things. I also wish there was an early signing period, and along those lines, football players should be allowed to make official visits in the spring of their junior years.

Iowa kids know what playing football for the Hawkeyes means. There's a special place in all Hawk fans hearts for guys like Yanda, Wiegmann, Kampman, Kroul, King, Sash, Gallery, and the list goes on. If you wear the black and gold Hawk fans will love you no matter where you're from. However, being from Iowa it has to be special to grow up reading about the Hawkeyes in the CR Gazette or DM Rag on Sundays, and then after working your way into a starting position on the team you get to see yourself in those articles.

I think it would be a pretty damn good feeling anyways. I hope these kids realize how lucky they are to have that chance. Hopefully Nelson becomes a beast for the Hawks on the defensive line. I'm anxious to see how he does his senior year after putting on so much weight. He should be virtually impossible to block for Iowa High School teams.

Unless you're from Keokuk. Then you can go to hell.

But then again, Keokuk isn't really part of Iowa as much a piece of Missouri that somehow attached itself to Iowa like a tick.

* Ditto as well. I think the most important thing that can be done for recruiting is to show some significant progress on the field this year............. not only for holding on to those in this class but for 2015 and beyond prospects that are being courted heavily these days as well.

* I think we are fortunate to have a good in-state class this year and to have Morgan still on board. B. Ferentz and White seem to have had the most influence thus far in their Hawkeye recruiting careers.......Ferentz more so last year. Woods may be doing good work as well but he hasn't brought many fish to the boat last year or this year that I can see.

* Would sure like to see someone on this staff that can compete once in awhile with other power programs for prospects outside the state. Obviously our record has made recruiting difficult for gaining the attention of those outside the state but it can be done with the right personnel in place.

Woods is making inroads it appears, but doesn't yet have a lot to show for it. If Iowa shows progree this year as stated above, he will have more success I believe. I don't know why we haven't heard more from Ferentz this year in recruiting. He now has Illinois right? If so, he's starting fresh there so it may take awhile. The tell on this class will be the season (we need 6-7 wins). Also, we will need good out of state guys. We held serve instate. Hayden taught us the importance of this. But it's not enough even in a good year like this one. Let's get some "skill" guys like another DE, LB, WR form out of state and then this class will be very good for Iowa.
