Hawkeyes the only team in FBS that.....

Iowa is the only team in the B1G and FBS to only use one running back. Every team in the conference uses at least 2 and most use 3-4 a game. I went further and looked at the top25, the SEC, the Pac-10 and several more and it was interesting that they all use 2-8 running backs a game. Just thought it was interesting. Coker is a monster but a change of pace or a breather seems the norm. Any comments?

Dance with the girl that brung ya.

I think the coaches fully intend going in to get other guys some carries, but they have total trust with Coker, and are not ready to trade the unknown for the known. I can't say I blame them (except in the MN game where Coker was practically pleading to come off the field and he kept getting waved back.)

I don't know of any pro teams that only run one back either. Odd, considering Iowa runs a pro-style offense.

The more that fans ask for this obvious enhancement to our offense...the harder KFz digs in his heels. He's one stubborn sum-*****...and it's getting old.

Careful do not question things. We just won a game so KF is god again. To answer your question though, yes Mc Call should get around 8 carries a game. Coker is the MAN, but we do need a change of pace.

When healthy, Gore, Jackson, McGahee now off the top of my head.

(I don't count 2-3 carries as a 2 back system.)

I haven't seen any one but Forte carry the ball for Chicago tonight. AP is pretty much a one man gang. Lesean McCoy too. It basically follows the formula that if you have an elite running back then they are on their own pretty much.

Iowa is also the only school in FBS who named Iowa. Here's the question you should ask yourselves. Unless Coker gets hurt, is it worth burning the injury redshirt for McCall at this point in the year if Coker is getting 130 and 2 TDs a game?

I don't get why it would matter for this season. Our running game isn't one of our issues.

Though considering he is only a sophmore it'd be nice to not see him taking too many hits. He reload pretty consistently at RB though so if he goes down someone else will come in and dominate.

Also how did Greene get so many yards? Dont fix whats not broke. Coker put in all the work this year, called himself out and really stepped it up, now he is getting some appreciation and love from the media and what do HAWK fans do? We need to put some more backs in. Now if Coker says he needs help, fine, I agree 1000% but if not let him shine.

McCall can't get a medical redshirt. He's been cleared to play, which makes him ineligible for the waiver. We're wasting a year if he doesn't play again this season.

really, if it aint broke leave it alone.
That wasn't my point at all. Coker is the man, but, I don't care how good you are you better have an option if he blows out a knee or gets a concussion. I would love to have him every down as well. My point was we are the only major team that doesn't run more than 1 back. Its not a knock, I endorse using Coker. Just saying, McCall might be a good change of pace now that his redshirt is smoldering. How about a two back formation or a quick turn to Rogers.

yeah, we understand, no biggie, chill, we'll start to use mccall when he comes back, no worries, but for now, coker coker coker
