Hawkeyes Still Working Hard to Secure Christian Vital's Final Visit

Fran must see something in this kid that I don't. And that's coming from behind a keyboard, so I know what I'm talking about!

"So unless I commit before then, I'll take a visit". Sounds like he's so not into us. Doesn't sound like this is going to happen.

“I spoke to Coach (Andrew) Francis today. My mom is still speaking with Coach Fran (McCaffery) about a visit date,” Vital said.

From what I've read I get the sense his mom is more involved this time around...compared to his UNLV commit.

He sounds like the kind of player that doesn't back down from a challenge...and isn't afraid to take a big shot. I'm pretty sure I've read some posts on here about us needing to be mentally tougher, able to close out games, etc.

True. Can't deny anything you've said. But from what very limited video I've seen of him, he is no more PG than Christian Williams. I'd rather bank the scholly and let Williams, Bohannon, Moss, etc tag team it.

Besides, as SteveGarvey1 said above, it doesn't seem like he's that interested.

There's really no reason to string us along at this late stage if he's not interested IMO. And it sounds to me like his mom may be interested...which is always a plus.

If he visits, I think he's ours. He's a competitive kid and wants to play. At Iowa, he could potentially start 4 yrs.

1h1, my opinion is that we can't go wrong with either Vital or Moore, as long as we get one. Moore is a true pg that can take it to the rim off the dribble, but isn't a dead-eye shooter. Teams can sag off of him. Vital is the opposite, he's a dead-eye shooter that isn't great and taking it off the dribble. Each area for both kids can be improved. Moore can become a better shooter and Vital can become better off the dribble. Again, I don't think you lose if you can get 1 of them. We need guard help from the dribble drive perspective and from shooting perspective. Neither kid satisfies both, completely.

He's visiting UCONN again. I assume he will commit on his visit.

I agree...assuming his mom gives the okay. It sounds like that's the final piece of the puzzle. But when one door closes another opens. Things are looking better with Moore.

Reports and some speculation that CV will make a decision today between with Louisville being the favorite over UConn.

I tried to contact him last night and again this morning. Nothing. He's been responsive to me every other time I've reached out to him since I first connected with him.

Guess his mom isn't concerned about strippers and such there. Oh well, go figure.

I've not heard of other names but Fran is good at keeping things under wraps. If I were to say one way or the other right now, I'd say banking for '17 is most likely.
